LOTR: Rings of Power Season 2
« on: May 16, 2024, 01:18:31 PM »
Season 2 trailer is up, starts August 29

I survived season 1 (some bits were okay, others...), so I'll see. Maybe with more battles and less filler it will be better ??? Food for scenario ideas, if nothing else

I'm excited to be honest, really enjoyed getting back to Middle-earth again.

Not sure how to feel about PJ's new project in Middle-earth, but I'm sure I'll enjoy it too.

Thanks

I will watch it, because my wife and I like watching any fantasy series together, but the first one left a lot to be desired. I couldn't believe my eyes at points.

I like to think of it as history of Middle Earth  as told by various peoples thousands of years later, and, as such, is often inaccurate, fanciful and garbled.

That lets me enjoy it without breaking canon.

Hopefully the many failings of Season 1 will have been noted so will give it a chance.

I won't be watching this (I read fantasy but seldom watch it).  My initial response to having movies only loosely based on the source material is "why don't they just make an original movie/series?".  But when you look at the highest grossing fantasy movies of all time (quite a wide concept of fantasy here) they are dominated by Disney, games, Harry Potter and Tolkien.  Where there are some original movies (Shrek) they also spawn a number of sequels.  Overall, there is little out there that is new AND commercially successful.  To be successful some brand recognition is  clearly needed.

For Middle Earth it is a pity that a decent movie/series can't be made while being a little more faithful to the source material, even if just the aesthetics.  I don't think this would detract from the story.  Of course, most of the intended audience will have only a rudimentary knowledge of ME and really not care about being faithful to the books.

I like this idea! I’ll try thinking of it the same way, maybe that’ll leave me more inclined towards season two :)

I just grab popcorn and a seltzer, and pretend it's a random fantasy series vaguely inspired by Tolkien-esque fantasy tropes.

oh wait...

The only nice thing I said about season 1 ... it was better than the Wheel of Time series.

I tried the first series, but lost interest.  I didn't hate it, but it just didn't hook me.  Maybe I will try it again... if people say season 2 is stronger. (I would have rather Amazon spent that money on continuing The Expanse series).

Didn't try the Wheel of Time series.  I read the first book, and wasn't impressed - and the trailers for the series did not convince me it would be more gripping than the book(s).

The books get better, although they are all very overwritten o_o The final book is one of the few books I've read more than once, even if I didn't fully understand the ending ???

The first series was horrific, and they somehow managed to create a show with virtually nothing from the book in it. It was as if someone told you a couple of things about World War 2 and you just went off and made your own stuff up about the entire war. Skipping season 2 of it was one of the easiest decisions I've been faced with in a while. It was a shame, but it was just bad and wrong on every level :(

My expectations are quite low for the LOTR show, but I'll give it a try.
