This sort of thing really interests me, as a military man (25 professional soldiering) I haven't come across any rules that actually replicate combat (I know it's only a game lol) This sort of thing could come close, while still having a small element of chance. I'll nip over and have a look, I'll be there with the Total Battle Miniatures (Legion of blokes) peninsular game.

Sadly too far away, but I got the rules for the 30YW via Amazon and am really impressed. I have no idea when I will be able to play them, but they are really fresh and sound fun!
Good luck!

I might be missing something here. But isn't that just how most roleplaying games work?

You have to read the book actually. Or the review by our own member Pilje here in LAF. It’s definitely more into the storytelling aspect of RPGs and for wargaming really new and innovative.

Missing something? Hitting the nail on the head actually.

I am not an RPG player and Arguing When… Wargames are wargames. However, I am with a club that has many that also play RPGs and they in particular quickly pick it up.

As DivisMal already points out it is about the creating the narrative of the battle at hand. One of the things I set out to do is develop a game that not only stimulates a discussion amongst the players but has it as its core mechanic. The discussion is not following the developments in the game, it is driving it.

Hope this clarifies…
