New Napoleonic rules - Twilight of the Emperor
« on: 02 July 2024, 05:08:49 PM »
I am pleased to announce that the Twilight of the Emperor rules for the Napoleonic era are now available. They are available in English or in French from here - https://www.wyrehistoricbooks.co.uk/emperor

The 'Twilight of ...' series of rules are designed to fight large historical battles with relatively reasonable numbers of figures and on a reasonably sized table. Infantry units represent around 3000 real men abd so are usually something like a brigade. Any sized figures or basing can be used.

Twilight of the Emperor is the 4th set in the series of rules. Previous sets cover the periods 1618 to 1770. These are Twilight of Divine Right/With Fire and Sword (1618-1680), Twilgiht of the Sun King (1680-1720) and Twilight of the Soldier Kings (1720-1770).

Hi!

This sounds great, as I very much enjoy Twilight of Divine Right, which I've played several times with my mate Sigur.

I have one question: I have a collection of 6mm napoleonic figures based for Blücher, that is a unit is one base with a frontage of 60mm. Could I use them for Twilight of the Emperor? I see that there is no figure removal, but are there formations and formation changes, and if yes, how are they indicated?

Thanks for your help!

Shandy,

I am glad you like the Divine Right rules and I hope you will like these rules when you get to try them.

On 'formation changes', actually modes, you can do it in 2 ways. You can use 2 or more bases and rearrange them to show the mode but that will involve a rule called the 'bunching' rule - basically this is intend to space the units out so they have a standard frontage as in Divine Right. The other alternative is to use 1 (or more) bases as a unit on a standard frontage and use a marker of some kind to show the unit's mode.

I recommend the second alternative but of course it is up to you. In your case I would use either 1 base and a BW of 30mm or 2 bases 'in line' and a BW of 60mm & in both cases markers of some kind. Generally you will just need markers for units which are in a different mode to the majority.

I hope that helps.

Thank you, that was very helpful. I guess I'll go with the markers, as I probably won't have enough units if I use two bases for one unit...
