A Roman Civil War - updated
« on: 10 July 2024, 02:48:34 AM »
It took us 4 years to realise our 28mm Roman Bellum Civile project but at last we got it onto the table, using To The Strongest. It was most gratifying to at last see the forces of Pompey and Caesar in action!

Wonderful.  I too have a Caesarian army for TTS but still need to lure my mate onto the table for a Civil War battle. Looking at the unit sizes do I assume you are using something bigger than a 15 x 15cm grid?

Regards

Thankyou!

We are indeed using the 15x15cm grid, with most of our units based on 12cm width bases

Nice armies.  The late republic has great civil war potential.  I have an idea to do a knockout comp in this period, where each player has a named general, a legionary core, and can choose from a limited set of regionally based auxiliaries.  The winners add the loser's army as a subordinate command after each battle and take on another winner, until you end with one final big battle.

Really nice armies! And Trev, we'd better get to see a thread on the subject if that campaign ever happens, really fun idea (that I might just steal :) )

Thanks everyone - its certainly given me some impetus to get some additional units ready for battle...including my Command stand with Ceasar himself!

It takes time to finish armies and your determination is commendable - well done!  :)

Nicely done basing - there is a Mediterranean feel to it.

Thank you! It was a real on again-off again project so it feels double satisfying

Appreciate the comment re basing. Initially, we had based with a traditional green Central Europe (Gaul) theme but when we rebased from sabots to multi-based elements for To The Strongest, we elected to switch to the more mediteranean vibe. I think it fits better too!  :)

Please steal away and tell us about it.  I have ideas but I'm not so good at painting all the figures. :)
