Return of the Anunnaki (28mm miniatures)
« on: July 18, 2024, 03:00:35 PM »
I wasn't sure whether to put this post here or in the Sci Fi section, but the forum description said "real or imagined" so here goes.

Wanna throw your players a curveball when indulging in some weird modern, 30's archeological, or other scenarios?   Ancient Astronaut Theorists say yes!  (FYI they always say yes)

So I did up some Anunnaki ancient alien gods minis for that purpose.   I used some figs from North Star Minis Ziggurat line, though I'm not sure.   Look around.   These were oversized for 28mm, and looked more like 32mm figures, so if you want to replicate, go looking for 32's.  These figs should tower over the rest because per modern legend, they were bigger than humans.   I also bought a couple of feathered wing add-on packs but don't remember the company.   If you look, you'll find something though.

Painting:  So I wanted the super pale look per the depiction of Anunnaki in the rock cartoon opera ANNUNAKI - Mensegeiros do Vento (Annunaki Messengers of the Wind) which is viewable here:  https://www.bing.com/videos/riverview/relatedvideo?q=messengeiros+do+vento&mid=B90060813206575299DEB90060813206575299DE&FORM=VIRE

It was accomplished by painting them a really pale flesh, then inking with windsor-newton blue ink.  Once dry, the musculature was painted back onto the highlights and then pure white was used as the high highlights.    This method would also be useful if you're doing up a bunch of alien grays or witch elf lasses or such.

I've also seen AI art depicting them as very dark skinned beings with serpentine motifs, so if you're gonna go that route, maybe use your drow flesh painting technique to get that kind of effect.   Mine is dark navy blue base, then inked with windsor-newton peat brown to warm it up a bit, then painting the navy back on the top parts of the muscles, and using successively more mid-range blues as the highlight and high-highlight colors.

If you're going for pale, use strong colors for the clothes to maintain contrast and interest, and if you're going for dark go for lighter colored clothes or even metallics for the same reason.

Anyhow, here's the pic of the finished minis.  Make them formidable and agressive, and enjoy tossing that curve-ball at your players.

Those are awesome looking!  They would make great bad guys for an Indiana Jones/Lara Croft type of game.

Interesting.  I don't think they're the same wings you used, but the Lucifer's War range from West Wind and Old Glory might be a good source of wings for that sort of project as well.
