Claymore 2024
« on: August 08, 2024, 12:23:50 PM »
As an American wargamer and hobby enthusiast, it has always been my dream to attend a UK show some time. I had always heard there were some differences in approach and format (game vs vendor focus, etc). Last weekend, I had the opportunity to attend Claymore in Edinburgh since I was in town for the Military Tattoo. It was an awesome experience where I met so many industry notables I have read about and communicated with via email for years.

Since I am a 6mm and 10mm enthusiast, I often feel a bit neglected at American conventions (at least when it comes to vendor offerings). Claymore did not neglect my interests at all and I spent many pounds sterling to purchase many pounds of lead! More pictures and story here: https://lecoqfou.blogspot.com/2024/08/claymore-2024.html

Tom, there were at least two of them! It was a breath taking table. Apparently it was a display game called "Descent on the French Coast" set during the seven years war and was set up by some gentlemen to honor a wargaming friend who had passed on. Very impressive tribute on my opinion.

I kept wandering past the Baccus stand intending to chat to Peter but he always seemed to be in conversation with someone - I wonder if one of them was you.

The  two ships were spectacular - the time and care they must have taken makes me glad my unpainted ships are all in the 1/4800 to 1/1200 range, so much less detail!

In your blog post you say," Anyway, I look forward to visiting other UK/European wargaming shows in the future...Peter Berry did say I should attend Joy of Six sometime!" I'll second that suggestion. Small, but perfectly formed, like the figures it celebrates I find it both friendly and fascinating. The morning and afternoon Q&A sessions are always worth attending too.
There are 100 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary and those who can work from incomplete data.

Meanwhile, I'm at Gencon in Indy fighting these crowds....

Does make me wish I could hit the conventions in Europe once or twice in my life.
