Does anyone use an ultrasonic knife?
« on: 17 August 2024, 08:16:27 PM »
Not a Dr Who gadget ;D

There's a thread on the Reaper forum just now about ultrasonic knives and dental scaling gizmos for cleaning mold lines - link

I was wondering if anyone here used such a thing. I've looked at the Phrozen one, and watched a couple of YouTube videos - Amazon UK link, but it's well past the "impluse buy" price point, so I thought I'd ask the collective first.

There are also various dental scalers and cleaners, so if anyone has any experience with them, I'm also interested. Having just spent an afternoon carving flash off Reaper Bones USA (Siocast) and normal Bones figures, anything to speed that up would be welcome.

As an experienced jeweler, I think that tool would be a waste of money. Just pull out a sharp replacement blade for your xacto knife and spend the balance on more figures.

We used one at work for cleaning up 3d prints and making adjustments to acylic etc. Only worth it if you're going to get a lot of useage out of it really. We just about did but to be honest we probably could've managed without.

Thanks folks. You confirmed where I was leaning (and also where the YouTube guy was going). I certainly wouldn't make enough use to justify its cost, and it's probably too bulky to get into some of the areas where flash tends to accumulate.

Crisis averted, for now anyway. I feel almost grown up, having avoided an impulse buy ;D

I did semi-impulse buy a couple of GW things yesterday, but that was figures, so doesn't really count as "impulse" lol

This post was the first I have heard of an ultrasonic knife; thank you for bringing it to my attention.  While it looks like it would be great for trimming supports I will not be picking one up either...

...not really because I want to save money, but because I want to save my fingers!
If my wife asks, I only spent half as much as I wanted to...
