Soviet armored trains in N scale or 12mm
« on: August 29, 2024, 03:49:46 PM »
I was playing the online Battle for Moscow (again). The rules allow the Soviets a railroad movement phase before the combat phase and the resulting normal movement phase. Early in the game, Soviet forces often use the rail movement to escape from the Germans. Later, sometimes they use rail movement to exploit gaps in the German lines in front of Moscow for counter attacks.

It struck me that one could have a fine scenario for either of these cases if you had a armored train model. I already have N scale tracks (I think), used for ACW and FPW games as places for infantry to take cover. This presumes that the Germans aren't across the tracks but can bring them under fire. If they were across the tracks they'd just blow them up or pry up the rails.

Any ideas for where to get models? I don't care if they actually move, not being a model RR guy. The rails just function as terrain.

With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

I think you should look at 3D printed models. I found one excellent model - but obtaining it will be associated with some difficulties, since it is printed in Russia.

The armored train is an armored mobile artillery battery. It is optimal if she moves along the front of your troops in battle. In addition, the armored train crew is trained to quickly repair damage to the railway track, and the platforms in front and behind the train have all the necessary materials to repair such damage. So it is not so easy to disable it. The most effective enemy of the armored train in the Second World War is aviation.

Definitely don’t support anything Russian.

I’m sure there are stl files available; I have a friend with a 3D printer and he knows how to find things.

Standby!

Certainly plenty of reason for animus towards Russia, the state, but not towards all Russians, the people - remember, there are a lot of Russians opposed to Putin and his ways.  Perhaps the designer/seller is an okay person.  But I still wouldn't try to deal with Russia right now given the overall situation.  Very sad state of affairs.

If you can print your own stl files, a simple google search will yield many results.

And none of them are Russian.

*absolutely no offence intended to cuprum. I’m sure he’s swell.
