My ECW Pikeman's Lament Project new units p2 05/12/24
« on: 26 September 2024, 04:08:53 PM »
I thought I would share some pictures of my ongoing ECW project. It's basically for Pikeman's Lament although the first lot of figures, which were painted a while ago, are all individually based. This basing is too bright and will be revised going forward.

Horse: A mixture of Foundry and Perry metals and Warlord plastics.

Foote: Warlord plastics and Foundry metal dismounted cav, some with plastic arms as I didn't have enough metal ones.

A more recent unit, although this revised basing went wrong as what I thought was a tub of Woodland Scenics green blend was something much lighter and duller. Some simple conversions here using spare arms from various sources along with separate muskets from Warlord and Warbases. The halberd is from the Fireforge plastic weapons packs but is rather oversized for the Warlord figs, although it doesn't really show in these pics. 3-2-1 basing for Pikeman's Lament.

The 3-2-1 basing looks great. I think the flock colour is fine.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

Thnks for the comments chaps, the basing and flock looks better in the pics than I feel it does in real life! Here are some individuals/heroes/leaders that I forgot to photograph with the other unit. The chap with the bible (or spellbook :D) is a Warlord Firelock figure with arms from the Frostgrave Wizards sprue. An idea I copied from another thread on LAF but I can't find it now.

I like the little modifications you have done to the Warlord Firelocks.

I've got bible/spellbook carrying conversion that uses the same sources, so possibly you had one of my LAF threads from the last few years taking up space in your brain!

Fun to see someone else do similar conversions. There isn't enough gunpowder fantasy out there, if this shades off into something like that I'll keep watching it with interest!

All looking very good I must say. Fireforge plastics are mostly good but they do have the common problem of making their weapons fantasy-scale rather than historical-scale which can look a bit off.

I'm getting started with an ECW army project myself and I'm glad to see that the Foundry figures scale fairly well with Warlord plastics.

Yes, I think it must have been your thread, I printed out the pics for inspiration and stashed them with the unpainted figures! TBH it will be a largely historical project but there will be the occasional diversion, as you will see.
