Wargames Foundry have put up an advance notice of a price rise coming on 21st October, so 10 days grace to get orders in beforehand.

No surprise - metal prices have gone up in a silly/stupid manner in the past year or two.

NOT intended as a knock on Foundry - are they doing anything new, or are they just living off their existing (and decent) backstock of sculpts now?

I shudder to think of the price on my fairly excessive Foundry collection would be at the new prices   :o

As you say, they're an archive service now if that's the right term. They must have the original dollies though so it'd be great if they got some semi-decent sculptor to create some variants of existing models for armies with less regimented looks like ancient Germans. Get rid of the silly cartoonish hair for figures that are otherwise really nice. It must be tough with so many new players going straight to Victrix.

I haven’t ordered from Foundry in ages, but maybe it’s worth it to grab some in advance of this. Only a couple of days, right?

Their ranges are classic - sometimes in bad ways  ;D but all classics!

I think one of their seriously fantastic and under appreciated lines are the 20mm Perry-sculpted WW2 minis:

Agreed re the 20mm. Shame they never expanded/completed the ranges to include heavy weapons plus some of the packs were all single-pose.

FYI, Foundry traditionally run a Christmas sale. Discounts increase with spend and top out, IIRC, at 25%. Worth waiting for that if you’re spending big?

Indeed the do. I don't think I have bought a pack from them except in their Christmas sale. Me and my mates normally manage to rustle up an order big enough to qualify for the maximum discount.

After the price rise and - the miniatures still work out as more expensive in the the X-mas sale! N.B. They didn't go as high as 25% last year.

Can't blame them for a price rise, metal costs are crazy. You definitely get your money's worth with their metal and casting quality, and as has been said their range is full of absolute classics. Many if not most really hold up to this day and some ranges are still top of their genre.

Must admit, I increasingly prefer a single piece hand sculpted casting over putting together a spindly 6 piece plastic infantryman, even if it's more expensive. Saves me highlighting all those overly wavy/wrinkled clothes.  ;)

I would agree is they weren't just relying on their back catalogue and had a quality sculptor work for them in the last 24 years, but they have not.

It might be a stupid question but are Foundry still releasing new figures? I bought masses of their stuff in the 1980s , '90s and early 2000s but since then have only either added to existing armies or made a few niche purchases such as Aztecs or Darkest Africa which I think date back many years. They then went down a rabbit hole of fantasy and stuff such as Judge Dredd and that was when I rather lost track of them as a business.

I’m not sure they have issued new figures but the back catalogue is utterly fantastic. I did order more Darkest Africa just now.

most of their newer products have been  put over to another website, Casting Room miniatures https://castingroomminiatures.com/. Not sure why they decided to do it that way. Their fantasy products are at another webpage, Warmonger miniatures

I remember when they did it. They sent an email out which basically explained they thought the casting miniature stuff wasn’t as good as the mainstream stuff or didn’t fit in properly with it. I think some of it’s okay.
