A good start. The army looks great so far. Looking forward to seeing them with more paint on them.

So far all of my work has been rebasing. I bought those Undead minis already painted. I will be doing a test model soon for the Dwarves seeing if I can match the existing paint scheme using some speed paints.

So lets dig this project thread from the dead.
Looking forward to see the updates!

In this last week I discovered that there will be a second edition of the Oathmark rules.
Uh, where did you see that? I haven't read anything about that yet but might have missed it easily.

Nothing official has been announced but Amazon found the ISBN number for the book and added it to their website. So it has been 'spoiled' but not officially announced. Joseph M confirmed that it was being released but I don't expect any real news for several months.

Shipment in from The Sentry Box.

Elven Heavy and Light Cavalry
Dwarven Heavy Infantry
Goblin Infantry and Wolf Riders

As well a stack of character models

Once I get this done my Oathmark armies will go from being 90% Warhammer minis to 100% North Star plastics and metals.

Sorry in advance for the bad photos.

Yesterday I assembled five more Goblin Slave Slingers and an Officer model for the Goblin Slave Soldiers.

I also created five mounted archers. I used the arms from the Elf Light infantry set. The poses are off on some of the models (never my strong point) so I may cut them at the waists and repose them.

The bow arms fit well but the arms with the arrows posed across the body/being drawn from the bow don't fit as well. I will need to fill in some small gaps at the shoulders. If you want to do this yourself then I would suggest using the other arms to make them fit well.

I also used some of the hooded heads from the Light infantry set to give them a more 'ranger' feel to them.

The horses were quite easy to put together and seem as if they will be simple to paint up. Pretty much exactly what you want for this sort of figure.

I also cleaned up and glued some of the metal character miniatures to some bases. These are all pewter figures (except for the one plastic Elf wizard I made with some Frostgrave minis) and were easy to clean up. They all had some minor mould lines with the exception of the Elf figure with the horn who had a bit of flash around some of the body edges. Nothing serious though.

I suspect that is all of the character models I will need for the Elf/Dwarf force.

Currently I am a bit concerned that these will either stay unpainted for a long time or have to be 'quickly' painted with some speed paints. My arthritis has been quite bad for a while and cleaning up the plastic miniatures caused me quite a lot of pain. So we'll have to see how much of a problem the painting will be.

Next up will be assembly of the Dwarf Linebreakers and Archers. Which is actually all of the models that I need to assemble so I may be able to get in some unpainted minis test games with them while I work on getting everything painted.

Given what I need to assemble to get the both forces filled out I wildly over-purchased :-)

I now have a page on my blog with the status of all of the first set of minis that I am working on for my armies

https://zacgaming.neocities.org/pages/oathmark/

I realised yesterday that I actually didn't manage to get the box of plastic Dwarf Light Infantry with my last order so I will have to repurpose the GEM Dwarf gunners that I have as 'archers'. I may just use them as black powder weapons and recost the archer unit accordingly.

I only had 12 of those gunners. They were originally painted up as a militia unit for Sage: Age of Magic. I, luckily, had three more of the models so I quickly painted those up using some Army Painter speedpaints. The one thing I like about the speedpaints (and maybe all of the one coat paints work the same) is that you can easily mix them to create new colours. The yellow on the Dwarf gunners is not a colour I have access to but I was able to create an acceptable version of it with the yellow and brown speedpaints. They aren't an exact match but they won't be noticeable in the back lines.

I assembled a unit of 10 Dwarf Warriors and 10 Dwarf Linebreakers from the Dwarf Heavy Infantry plastic box. And I also rebased one of my Conquest Kherise models to use as a Corpse Fire from the Undead list. I doubt I will be playing Conquest any time soon so I won't miss one model from the unit.

And some quick photos

The Warriors and Linebreakers went together easily. I put the arms on the Warrior models first and then the heads but I placed the heads first when I did the Linebreakers. Some of the arm combos are tight to the torso and the heads all have large beards so placing them first avoided having issues placing the heads properly.

Quite happy with the plastic Dwarf Heavy Infantry models. There are quite a few head and weapon options and even some small accessories you can add to bling out a champion or Officer.

Thanks.

I wanted a splash of colour on them and since the pants and shirts were yellow I thought purple would be a good choice.

Some of the Undead have been rebased. 15 skeleton spears, 15 skeleton archers as well as some characters and monsters.

The large undead giant will be added to the army as a Giant. The three Ustabi-like minis will be Animated Statues. The character at the front is the Undead general and the red fellow next to him is the Corpse Fire. It is a Kheris miniature from Conquest that I am repurposing.

I took these in the new lightbox. I was using the default camera app on iOS which doesn't have the ability to set a white point so the photos came out with a significant blue tone to them. I may have to use Halide to take photos. I was hoping that the lightbox would provide a good enough colour tone but it seems as if the camera app isn't up to the task.

Thanks. The Undead models in this set of photos came to me already painted. I have just rebased them.

Painting continues and I have added two new units to my Oathmark forces. The first is a unit of 20 Mummies. These were fairly far back on my painting schedule but then I watched an Oathmark battle report from the Ash and Stone Youtube channel and decided that my army needed ghouls. These are clearly not ghouls, far too slow to begin with, but I didn’t have enough of the models that I wanted to use. As it turns out I do have 20 of the Tomb Jackals but I had already painted the Mummies.

These had been primed a bone yellow by the original owner so I drybrushed the wrappings through a few different shades until I was using an off-white. I then used some Army Painter Speed Paints to add the blue skirts and the golden metal jewelry. The white was done using Army Painter white but I watered it down and did it in several layers. It actually turned out better than I thought it would.

These are the first of the North Star plastic Dwarf Heavy Infantry models. These were assembled as Dwarf Warriors for Oathmark. I have another unit of 10 assembled as Linebreakers. In front is one of the metal Dwarf Champions from North Star. When I was priming these models the white primer beaded and so the Army Painter Speed Paint I used didn’t actually work correctly. I had to add a wash of Nuln Oil mixed with Agrax Earthshade to get some depth to the figures. The primer also seems to have filled the details in a bit. Happily the Linebreakers don’t seem to suffer from the same issues.

My hands (and other joints) are also not helping to contribute to a better paint job. I have been having some real issues being able to control my brushes as well as being able to sit long enought to paint. You can’t spell ‘paint’ without ‘pain’ as it happens. So these look quite rushed. Because they are quite rushed. I would rather have painted minis on the table though so I will take rushed any day.

The metal Dwarf champion model looks quite nice but it doesn’t fit in with the plastic models. They have far more armour on them than the champion does. The plastic sprue has a few optional parts that could make an interesting champion. So perhaps with the addition of a ‘tactical rock’ I can make a champion that matches the Warriors.

Next up are the Dwarf Linebreakers and then perhaps the Revenant Linebreakers.

Some excellent progress on some beautifully painted minis. I do like the Arabian nights style dwarfs - quite different from the (sometimes overdone and oft boring) typical stunty offerings.
