The film is dedicated to the events that took place in 1238, during the campaign to the West of the army of Khan Batu. The small town of Kozelsk stood in the way of the huge Mongol horde. The exact number of its inhabitants is unknown, but the princely squad of 12-year-old Prince Vasily consisted of only 300 warriors. Batu's tumen could have numbered up to 10,000 people. In any case, the superiority of the attackers in numbers was many times greater. Batu offered the inhabitants of Kozelsk to surrender, but this offer was rejected. The assault on the city lasted for seven weeks. Four thousand Mongols died during the assault. After the city fell, Khan Batu ordered all the remaining inhabitants of the city to be destroyed, and the city, which the Mongols called "Angry City", to be burned...
