Victrix Roman Republican Cav size comparisons
« on: November 25, 2024, 11:00:52 PM »
Victrix Roman Republican Cavalry are lovely plastic models but  a bit on the large side.   Here's a few photos to get an idea.     Also full review video available here.

Those Roman cavalry clearly ate all their greens when they were little.  Due to their size they must get +1 in combat and the enemy suffer -1 morale.

Comparing the size of the rider to the horse, it looks like he would be over 6 foot tall? A big lad for that period.

Haven't the horses been less tall at that time? I recall having read at the Celtic Chariot by Victrix that the horses are ponys as they would have been used at that time. I don't know though how those compare in size to the regular horses of the Victrix Gauls and Romans.

I have Gallic cav.  The riders are taller than the men on foot by a good amount.  Someone must have messed up a calculation....  The men on foot are awesome.

Are you sure the bare metal and black cataphract horses in the last photo are Aventine? They look more 1st Corps to me are they are "small" 28mm .

Good question SJWi..  I've had them for years in a box of shame.  Have bought horses from both companies so I could well be mistaken.

They are indeed 1st Corps horses.  The pics on their web site show the bare one in their Successor Scythed Chariot pack (MSS61), and the black from their Hetairoi (Companions) with Half Barding pack (MSS34).

damn boi he THICC!

the riders scale to the infantry notwithstanding, he seems vastly out of scale to the horse. I understand that historically horses would have been smaller, but there's a certain degree of romantic license that should be allowed with these things.
