28mm Perry Franco Prussian War
« on: 04 December 2024, 01:16:27 PM »
Hi All

Can anyone please tell me if Perry's 28mm French Franco Prussian war miniatures are compatible with the Wargames Foundry range. I'm starting a new project and was wondering if they are compatible

Many thanks
Steve

Sadly not, the Foundry FPW range was the very first range produced under the Wargames Foundry banner back in the late 1980s. They are pretty much true 25mm figures and would come up much shorter than the current Perry figures.

Its a shame as they are charming figures and given their age I think they still hold up against some modern ranges.

That is a shame, the current Perry range has quite a few gaps especially in the French range, are any other ranges/manufacturers compatible?
Any suggestions greatfully received

While Foundry are usually a bit shorted than modern 28s, in the same army they are fine - I wouldn't use them in the same unit but at tabletop distances a few millimetres doesn't mean much to me.

Not sure where you are, if you can get to Beachhead at Bournemouth 8/9 Feb 25 we are putting on a little FPW game. There will be quite a few FPW manufacturer's figures on the table to compare.

Next month, and in the photos of the FB page "Tales from the Wargames Shed" are photos of some of the games as we run through the V&F rules that we will be using.  The figures are from all manufacturers of FPW figures available, including a Bn of the Mecklenburg contingent ( Ironclads VSF Prussians by design or fluke make a suitably attired figure!).

These look rather nice, mine are Foundry which are still available.

Mind I find that Cavalry don't get used very often!

That's a great idea thanks both, I hadn't considered having different manufacturers if slightly smaller, in a separate unit. On the table I'm sure it won't be noticeable.
Thanks

It is a bugger, my finger hovered over some limbers in the Wargames Foundry winter sale, then looked at the price of Perry Napoleonic limbers, nearly 1/2 the price! I think I will wait for the Perries to release some, however patience is a virtue and there is no news on any new releases!

Here are a few photos of an initial muster of the Prussians, a mix of Perry, North Star, 1866, and Foundry. The Bavarians are still in their boxes.
