I will most likely do an introduction of the characters in my usual fashion prior to any gaming, who they are and how they met each other etc. I have an idea or two  ;).

I’m definitely with you there. I spend more time on characters’ backgrounds than the actual games but when the games do happen, that character detail gives the action so much more depth and meaning. I look forward to seeing how you develop this.

Thank you very much Doug!

I think that's half the fun! When you play solo, you can take whatever "artistic liberties" you like  lol.

This time around it was the Walking Dead minis "speaking" to me, and because of that, I have ordered some weapon packs to add to the selected miniatures...

The unarmed Liam will get a sword and a backpack (Max Mini and Anvil industries) and be cast as "Obie".

Hasslefree's Laurie (ordered) will be painted up as Supreet "Su-Si" Singh and also have a backpack added.

Hershel Greene will be Alonzo with an added pump shotgun (Hasslefree).

Now, I've been thinking about some interesting background fluff for my erstwhile heroes :).
The most important thing in the hobby is that you're having FUN! Doesn't matter if you win or lose.

OBIE (heavily based upon myself  lol)

I was on holiday in the US when The Rot happened. I can laugh about it now. I had never been particularly inclined to go there, so when I finally do, what happens? Society desintegrates! Talking about sod's law! When it happened it felt so unreal. I mean, you've seen it in the movies a million times and laughed at it. But, when it really happened... I had never been this scared in my life.

The world tilted on it's axle and went completely off it's rocker. You were as likely to being shot by some overeager, gun toting citizen, as you were to be devoured by one of those THINGS! It's remarkable how some things stay with you for the rest of your life. Although I've hardly fired a gun since my service decades ago, I still vividly remember what it was like, having live mortar rounds exploding 30 feet away from you and ricochet's buzzing through the leaves in the tree I was underneath. Because that's what the world felt like in the first weeks.

I managed to call my daughter in the UK before my phone died. The situation over there was as bad as over here and her last words, as her door was broken down by those THINGS, were: “I love you dad!” For a moment I thought, what's the point in going on now? I actually thought about just letting go. But there might be others out there, people who'd need me, people who were desperate, lost, in need of help. I HAD to be of use to someone. Maybe that's a selfish thought, but that's what drove me out of my black hole. I had to find a purpose again.

When the initial storm had becalmed, I found some useful equipment and went on foot. I don't move as quickly as I used to, but I'll get there. I didn't trust myself with a gun, my skills were too rusty and it'd only attract unwanted attention. A blade was more to my taste, having had some training in combat arts, both unarmed and armed. Best of all, it didn't make much noise and you'd never run out of ammo. The city was in complete chaos, with cars piled up or backed up for miles, besides, I've always been very comfortable walking. I had taken some classes, and they were very useful for situational awareness, threat assessment, secure entry and exit and when I had to, how to keep me alive in a dangerous situation. I had worked for many years as a support worker in operating theatres in the UK, I was not a paramedic or a nurse, but I've picked up some handy skills and I believe, together with my military experience, those had enabled me to better deal with all that was going on. I took out a heading in a direction that seemed like a good one and raised my right foot, followed by the left, repeat... Somewhere, out there, there are others. Maybe, just maybe, they need me. For the first time in weeks, a smile cracked my face. Yes, I would very much like that...

Thank you very much, I enjoyed putting it together. Chronic pain problems, so it is what it is. But I still walk faster than many people  ;).

I got my copy a few weeks ago. Aiming to use the Zombicide figures for the Zombies and my survivors will be from my Zona Alfa game.
Bought a couple of Dad's Army shops from eBay to supplement my buildings.
It's hard not to make each character much the same though you need variety to succeed.
Like above, stealth, strength etc is required.
I'm thinking of dicing for each figures attributes like in Five Parsecs.

That sounds like a great plan!
Although I belong to a gaming club, I do enjoy my little solo forays.
I gather that you have to have diversity, you need the ones that are good in a fight, but equally important are the ones that can care for the wounded, the ones who can make your food and water last, the ones who can find stuff etc. You need, literally, everyone to make it!

I have decided, that the first scenario WILL feature Bobby-Jo (Thelma-Sue, Kate-Jean...), a "white trash high school dropout, more interested in glossy fashion magazines than her grades. Destined to marry her football player boyfriend and raise a family in a trailer park, but cooks a mean chili"  lol (Looking at the introduction scenario Start A New Community, there is 1 Rookie hiding in the area. She will have 1 Skill, Rationing).

SHIVANI SHAKTI SINGH LEADER TIER 3

Her parents came to the U.S to look for a better life and she had a traditional upbringing. She was a dutiful daughter and she knew her parents wanted the best for her and her siblings. She graduated with top grades and, as her parents wished, became an accountant, and a very succesful one at that. A marriage was arranged and her husband, loving and attentive at first, turned out to be just another wife beater. First he could get violent if he had had a bad day at work and not being as great as he perceived himself to be, then, when it became evident she couldn't have children, he turned downright nasty and she was fearing for her life.

The Rot happened so quickly, one day it was business as usual, the next, complete chaos. Shivani fled to the neighbours house when her husband, infected, was rampaging! Her neighbour was always boasting about all the poor animals he had shot at one time or another and she knew he had a trophy room. Therefore, there MUST be something she could defend herself with there! As the door was broken down by her regressed, by now, ex-husband, who seemed to have it in for her even in unlife, she grabbed the first thing she could find. Which happened to be a bow and arrow. She had never shot anything or anyone in her whole 30-something life before, but the bow, it felt GOOD in her hands. All that abuse she'd been subjected to, for years, seemed to focus at the tip of the arrow. The Japanese call it Zen, and in that moment she was just that... The arrow took flight and the force was so great that it went through her ex-husbands head and nailed him to the door. She gathered up whatever useful things she could and left, with not a single glance back. THIS was the moment she was free to do what SHE wanted to!

Strength 0
Dexterity 3
Intelligence 2
Cooperation 1

Archery 0
Stealth 0
Scavenge 0

Shoddy bow and arrows (12) -1 (I'm using the optional Ammo rules for weapons)

Below, the Hasslefree miniature I'm going to use for her. Currently awaiting dispatch of the model.

Thank you very much Dan55!

As you might have seen, I also have a Last Days thread in this category, where I post most of my painted minis and buildings. They will do double duty for this as well and I have Hector's background fluff to do as well.

Thank you Sir!

Well, I'd like to think that any survivor would literally be from any walk of life and a lot, through fortune or happenstance being unlikely heroes. Therefore, I'd like to give some measure of realism to my characters. It's not just Jack the Special Forces Veteran that have managed to survive  :D.

Very happy you liked my effort, I'm now mulling over how I can make Hector the retiree an interesting character  lol.

Shivani’s had a tough life so far but that first shot with the bow promises an improvement in the future I think, despite being caught up in a grim apocalypse….! Nice choice of figure as well.

Keep it coming - you’re on a roll.
