Early Wars of Louis XIV
« on: 11 February 2025, 12:56:11 AM »
So, I'm dabbling with the idea of a new project. The European wars around the 1670s. I don't know why, but I kind of like the uniforms.

I have the Helion set, to-date, on the armies and wars of Louis' early reign. Authored by Bruno Mugnai, they are really interesting.

My problem, and for which I am looking for assistance, is where can I find good pictures to help a 3D designer design the figures? Myself and a friend are both interested and he is developing the skill set to do the design work.

So, if anyone has any knowledge about where to find good research material, preferably on-line, I'd appreciate a point in the right direction.

I know you mentioned 3D prints but you know about the Northstar 1672 range right?

The Northstar range (ex-Copplestone with added bits) are superb. Mark did a really nice job on these, they are hard to better.

Thanks, I had completely forgotten about those.

Although, I have not decided as yet, whether to do this in 28mm or 40mm.

Some more to think about obviously.

I think the uniforms of that period are just about as beautiful as they come, with the long coats, cravats and hundreds of buttons. As others have said Bruno Mugnai is a great source. It would be great if the minis complemented the 1672 range...
