Freight Sternwheeler "Pride of the West"

Bulky freight is best moved on the navigable waterways of the West.
With her slender hull the "Pride of the West" is built for speed. Her shallow draft and powerful engine allow her to haul all kinds of cargo: from timber to tools, from explosives to spirits. Whenever your goods need to be delivered in time, the "Pride of the West" is your best bet.
After years of successful service in America's West, the "Pride of the West" was bought by the British aristocrat Sir Henry Curtis who had her transported to equatorial Africa and re-christened "Pride of Africa" for his expedition in search of King Solomon's Mines.

Sternwheeler "River Queen"

The "River Queen" offers a convenient way to travel the vast reaches of the American West in comfort and luxury. But only for those who can afford it. Maybe you can win back your travel fare at the poker table? Or just relax in your cabin? Rumors have it that there is a "special' room service available too...? Come aboard and find out yourself!

Rudders fore or aft of the wheel, some Missouri River steamers had bow and side rudders as well, I assume others did too.

I always thought they were quite a shallow draft, and I don't imagine rudders on shallow bottoms for some reason  lol

They can be very shallow draft and the rudders often weren't deeper than the wheel. Many had multiple rudders to make minor corrections and on the upper Missouri River I know anchor and polemen supplemented the steering as well.

I have absolutely no need for a paddlewheeler of any size but those are very nice boats indeed.

(No shipping outside the States by Things from the Basement is also unfortunate...)

Hmmmm.... maybe our next Deadlands adventure will be centered around a paddle-wheeler.
