waist up could be separate from the legs and mount...

I bet they're now thinking, 'bugger, we should have done it that way.'

I remember, sometime in the mid-80s, our club took a miniatures version of Trollball (from Runequest) to Games Day. All the miniatures had been scratchbuilt by a club member.
Low and behold, the following year guess what comes out - Bloodbowl.
Pure coincidence, I'm sure.

They're not.

We're thinking one piece castings removed so many design/ moulding/ casting headaches.

We're also thinking if folks love the game, we'll do more variants.

New Dog Mounted Hairfoot Jouster.

We'll start taking pre-orders for the game and miniatures in April.

...and not a single game designer ever thought, 'What if we put a goblin in this jousting game...'

This is just more proof of anti-goblin sentiment.  Bunch of anti-goblinites, if you ask me.  Everybody knows, a halfling is just a fat goblin.  That's less green.  And fatter.  And those hairy feet.  Guh.

Unless ... I can just make goblin jousters and use the rules for halfling jousters.  Waitaminute...

Squig riders to the fore!

And then there are Warg riders. Nazgul on fell-beasts, Eagle riders. And for the grumpy sort, Dwarf ram-riders!

I have no problem with the rider and horse cast as one piece.
In fact, I like it that way.

There's something to be said about a miniature cast as it is meant to be posed, in one piece. Looking at the above pics, I love the character of each figure, some of which would be lost if the torsos had to be separatable from the mounts and legs... Just the way the top rider on the dog sorta slumps into the saddle is great.

Even GW has moved away from the separate rider-mount paradigm for a lot of their stuff... opting to instead make ridiculously complex moulds that essentially only go together in a single way (with the odd weapon or head option). The poses ending up just looking so much better than a dude standing/sitting upright with each arm out in front with a chosen weapon... :)

The rider and horse cast as one piece is a Centaur.

I'll get me coat...

I find it hilarious that we are getting a Fantasy Jousting game, but as far as I know we don't even have a great Historical jousting game out there yet.

A second fantasy jousting game, which just emphasises the point really.

Please make at least two variants of the goose-mounted figure, otherwise my kids will cause actual violence while trying to agree who gets to be the goose  lol

Those are glorious and absurd and I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for the preorder.

Hopefully the rules are as absurd. It feels like the sort of game where you enforce a one-drink minimum to keep the overthinking down.

Absolutely. And use the card-game War as a basis.

Semi-serious question for the moderators; when people inevitably start posting pictures of their jousting halflings (really looking forward to seeing them) do they belong under Fantasy Sports? It seems to be the right place, but I'm not sure if it's just intended for Blood Bowl clones.

Good question actually. If be happy for them to go in Fantasy Sports, as they'd be less likely to be 'lost' in the main fantasy board, but I'm not precious about it.
