Current post content character formatting issue

Instead of an apostrophe, I'm seeing ??, ’, “, or other weirdness. Might be more than just apostrophes, but it's hard to tell!

EDIT: huh. When I type ’ without the tm the board converts it forcibly to '??'... if I type the tm symbol alone, the board converts it forcibly to '?'. What a bloody mess!

yes, at first with the Japanese pulp adventure stuff, so wondered it it was being pasted in from another source (fonts or something)... but seeing it more so not sure

Yes I am seeing that since yesterday. The forum was unavailable for an hour or two and I think the apostrophes are messed up since the forum got back up.

I had to give up on the Japanese pulp post because if it. Hopefully they'll fix it, as it was a really fun report

I'm getting the same issue, but only on certain posts - for example, in a Frostgrave thread a couple of posts had that issue, but a couple didn't.
I've also seen it in a few titles - strangely, I can see the ' in the title here, but others in the thread are screwed up,  as are other thread titles, and the ' appear fine in my reply for me.

Yes I?m seeing this too.  Only in the last couple of days

Feels like some higher ASCII translation to HTML issue. There are simple straight quotes and curly quotes (and quite possibly other ones).

On this most the quote / apostrophe in I?m is being changed to a question mark. This is from straight text entry on an iPad. The question mark persists when I edit the post

Double quote ?
A few options from long press on the quote button to get options
?  upper left to right quote
' straight quote
?  lower left to right quote
`variant of upper left to right quote

Edit again - so 2 of those worked, the rest replaced by question marks?

Me too. Again I first noticed it on the Pulp Japanese posts but now I've seen it on some others, but not always!!!

Same thing here, but not in all the posts, even in the same thread.

Support for non ASCII characters. they don't fit in Latin1 database format (mysql) so get rewritten  as various character strings when data is pulled to create webpage

Probably database is/was UTF-8 and now its Latin1.?

hopefully they sort it quick.

Seing it since a few days.  At first I thought it was mistypes, then that it could be for some reason related to my Firefox browser (Breton language pack) but I see it also appears on Chrome.

Akula's after the bomb thread is all over the place with the problem.

Titles from 2021 to yesterday are corrupted, but now they're showing correctly. Either they've fixed something or he's now using straight apostrophies, rather than "smart quotes"

If they have fixed it, it looks like they haven't back-ported the fix
