Wow - just wow! These are the Ice Tribe characters that Mark Copplestone hadn't got round to making - if you buy these, buy the Ice Tribe packs as well - my guess is they'll fit in so well you won't know which figures are from which range! Suddenly the Copplestone/Hornblower ice tribe/savages are an army!

It does beg the question, though, as to whether Mark Copplestone has any involvement with Hornblower (beyond the obvious figure size/style compatability)?

Hah - just noticed they've even got a not Lord of Bones figure!

Westfalia Chris, thanks for moving it, I don?t know what I was doing putting it in Future Wars. Must have been carried away by my enthusiasm and not paying enough attention. It?s a good thing I wasn?t driving!

Rick, I expect that you are right about the size compatibility with the Copplestone Ice Tribes. I will definitely be picking up a couple packs of those when I get these.

They are really lovely figures and I'm tempted as well, they have as much detail as most 28's - just fantastic figures.
Interestingly enough, as someone else has already pointed out (not sure on which topic though) Mark Copplestone has also been heavily involved in the design and sculpting of the Wiglaf miniatures 18mm Dark Age figures - they should also be quite compatible with these ranges as well!
Very tempting to do a dark ages/barbarica version of GoT with Ice Tribes as the freefolk, Wiglaf miniatures as the Crows and (possibly) more Southern houses and Copplestone Northlanders as the Northern houses. Hmm.

I'm also very tempted by a fantasy dark age setting, perhaps with more of a Swords and Sorcery vibe than GoT. For what it's worth the Checkpoint Miniatures 'Crom's Anvil' figures were also designed to be compatible to the Copplestone Barbarica range, giving even more options :)

The Copplestone Barbarica line is pretty cool, but it?s wild to me that there?s multiple lines looking to expand that niche set of models. I love it.

These Hornblower models continue to amaze me and I?m super jealous of those getting to collect and play with these might figs. Sadly, I?m too entrenched in 28mm for fantasy atm, but if I were to start over, I?m going Barbarica, Hornblower, Wiglaf, etc.

They're definitely going in my next Northstar order. My Ice Tribes will finally be completed.
I'm not a mercenary. Killing's more of a hobby for me.

Ok I do love the figures and I have some of the Copplestone Picts already. My question is a little off tangent, though; what rules (if any) are people using with these figures? I've been looking around at various rules and I keep coming back to the LotR ruleset as a possible idea - variant lists based on those, perhaps I've been spoilt by the idea of big skirmish-style games rather than the rank and file 'batallion' rules for fantasy.
So any ideas based on what rules people are using them with?

I based my Copplestone barbarians for mass-battle games. If I were to have gone for single based games, LotR would have been a contender. Another one would be the fantasy game by Wiley Games, but using the big battle variant. Could get a couple of decent sized tribes on the table that way.

On the mass battle side, but not too massy ? Hordes of the Things.

If I pick these up, they would join the Copplestone figures that I already have in my collection of Hyborian HotT armies.

Dragon Rampant would work well for a big skirmish game. If I pick them up, I'll use them for Midgard, which is a bit more 'rank and flank', but a lot of fun.

I went for Hordes of the Things. Big HoTT to be precise. Most of my Copplestone figures are going for 72 point forces, excepting the Northlanders who are going for 120 points. Megalomania? Possibly  ;D

I plan on picking up the second edition of Dragon Rampant when it comes out. I have the blue book from Osprey. The rampant system is a nice, beer and pretzels set that is easy to adapt troops to the idea you have in mind.

Apologies for these rough photos, but here are some ideas:

TINY Rampant:

I put 6 or 7 figures per 60mm x 40mm base (half a pack of minis per base..) for Warriors. 2 bases make up a unit. You count each base as half a unit in dragon rampant. Thus remove a base when unit is half strength.

3 or 4 figures per 60 x 40mm base for Skirmishers (3rd of a pack of figures)

MICRO RAMPANT:
Each base counts as 12 wounds...

FUNDING HORNBLOWER RAMPANT:
Each base counts as 3 wounds (4 bases to a unit)...

Same principles could apply to Midgard, either half a pack per unit (60mm base width), or a full pack per unit (80mm-100mm wide base)
