I'm sorry but what actually became of this game?

I have the rulebook and an ancient errata for it.

I thought - despite being almost impossible to read through - that the rules looked fun.
The whole quality die stuff was a funny idea.

Is anyone doing anything for it or has anyone picked up the mechanic?

Is there a rule set that covers the old west wind gothic horror range now?

The rules aren't very popular. Malamute is the only one I know who uses them.

There's plenty of information on the Westwind game in this forum. Just look around a bit and you'll certainly find it. Malamute used to play the rules and liked them. You'll need a lot of houserules and possibly a gamemaster who is familiar with the rules.

I'm about to post houserules for Chaos in Carpathia that are written with the Transylvanian part of the Westwind figure range in mind. This will include 9 warband lists (various humans, romanian vamps, nosferatu, werewolves, frankenstein, gypsies, the brotherhood), 8 scenarios (some original ones, some completely new) with a new victory points system and a campaign system (not using character advances though). I'll have everything complete by christmas.

Carpathia is better suited to one of games without much preparation whilst Vampire Wars needs somebody to work out a scenario and run the game. Both rulesets accompany each other very well.

I've wanted to do the same but never find the time  .  CiC is one of the best skirmish systems out there- us Gothic Horror types are lucky to have it.

Yep, terrible typeset, but a fun set of rules if you put the hours in. I like the Quality dice idea and it works for us. We have adapted them and now use them as our standard rules for small skirmishes involving Gothic horror or Victorian based adventures. we have also used them for near future post apocalypse games and the old west too.

I am in the minority for liking these rules as they are terribly presented and somewhat confusing. My gaming group persisted and as mentioned by Mike if you add lots of house rules and are prepared to almost rewrite them you can have a decent game.

Very much a fun game but yeah, horribly written, badly presented and needs a lot of work to make them ship shape and playable. One of the earlier rule sets I got into and every other rule system seemed a snap to get into after bashing my way through Gothic Horror.

Have to agree with everything here. I played them for some time but spent a long time trying to sort out all the badly written rules and typos. They do give a good game but it's hard work to get there. Chaos in Carpathia are much cleaner and easy to get into.
Mike - those mods etc sound really interesting and right up my street. Will you post them here or on the C-in-C yahoo group?

The Westwind books are still great value for the fluff part. That's very well done.

 I look forward to reading your improvements to CIC, Mike. I like the rule system very much but felt like it didn't have quite enough variety with the warbands. I could have made up my own warbands but that would take away from time spent painting my slowly growing pile of horror minis.(Pics coming soon!) Thanks in advance.
