Over the weekend and the past few days I have been cutting and gluing foam core and sticking down cardboard and sand. And now I have all the tiles ready to prime and paint.

Apologies for the sideways photo, my iPhone is being uncooperative about reformatting it in a vertical orientation.

It really is a lot of hallways. 39 pieces to be precise, 3 stairways, then 12 each that are 6, 8, or 10 inches long. The mix is partly due to the dungeon generation mechanic based on pulling playing cards. Whinging aside, I think it will give an interesting dungeon crawl experience. And I can always add rooms now!

I know it seems like a lot of hallways and rooms, but wait until you try to build out some complete dungeons with what you have...  I made many, many pieces of all sorts.  When I tried to build out some dungeons from some modules, I discovered that in spite of my large collection of pieces, I lacked numerous pieces needed to build out the dungeon as mapped.  LOL!

You will never have enough of the correct, needed pieces, for many years, and your collection will grow, and grown, and...  Good luck.  Cheers!

Impressive!

I made a custom deck of cards to match the various dungeon pieces I have - means you don't try to build a dungeon for a piece you don't have.

The cards are nothing fancy, simple small pictures of each dungeon room or corridor drawn on gridded paper, then stuck to small playing cards. Then sleeved to keep everything together.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions! I finished priming everything and am now moving forward with the painting. Unfortunately, I ran out of grey, which is kind of important  :?  Hopefully I can pick some up later this afternoon when my wife gets back with the car. In the meantime, I?ll get to work on the doors.

I finished up the dungeon tiles a little over a week ago, with a few hours to spare before the game. Using the dungeon crawl rules by Wiley Games, only about 20 tiles are used in a single game, but with the card based system there is no way to know which will be needed. With this set I am covered!

I also made some bits that aren’t strictly necessary. The stairways indicate where the dungeon level starts. They’re fairly simple, the stairs are just layers of cardboard, but the painting gives a simple forced perspective look, so they seem deeper. The columns and statues can be put in rooms to give a bit of variety and cover. The columns are the old wine-drinker’s standby, corks glued to spare bases. The statues are from a dollar-store “knights” bag a friend gave me. Awful sculpts, but fine for statuary!

In action, the tiles look alright. And they only took a couple weekends and a few dollars in supplies. My friend brought me some 3D printed dungeon doors, so the first upgrade I will be doing is to replace the paper doors with those.

That all turned out VERY nice! And you're right...there is something satisfying about spending a very little and getting a lot in return, gaming-wise.  :)

Well done!

I think they look more than alright - they look very good.

They are also much bigger than I thought when you see figures on them - but I think this is more to do with the initial pictures not having anything to really scale them with.

3d doors will be good

I for one think they are marvelous, well done.

I really like the black and white (greyscale) painting of them as its just right for a dark and dank underground complex with poor lighting.

Enjoy your games
