Beware the Monster from 10,000 Leagues (Ancient Deep One)!
« on: 09 December 2009, 03:50:28 AM »
This is a conversion I created as an ancient deep one for use in more Lovecraft gaming. I used the Ghoul King Miniature from Reaper Miniatures as the base, the head is from a growler from the now defunct Vor miniature game, and the fins are sculpted from two-part epoxy.

Interesting conversion and very different painting style. A little too abstract for me sorry but seems to work with the colour choice, just not sure on your highlighting approach. Looks like almost Steve Dean in some ways, which again feels too unnatural for me.

Anyway whatever floats ya boat, (or sinks it, dragging the poor living souls onboard to the murky depths of the abyss!) ;)

Good luck

When I saw the title of this topic I couldn’t help but think. “Verne meets Lovecraft? Why haven’t I seen that before?”

Wait...10 000 leagues is about 40 000 km, depending on which version you use.

That's the circumference of Earth, so that thing must be...right behind me. :o

Reminds me of a 80's fantasy movie, unfortuantly I'm blanking on the title.  At the end a horn is placed onto a "sacred" statue, causing the "Lovecraftian" demi god to awake and slaughter it's worshipers.  Some muscle clad barbarian ends up ripping the horn off, killing the beast.

Anyways, the conversion is nicely done.  Grotesque and corpulent.  That's actualy quite a good figure for conversion purposes.  Painted as is, it would make a wonderfull fosterling of the Great Old Ones.  I could also see it as a thrall of Cthulhu or even a star spawn with the right bits.

Bloody well done!  ;)

That was Conan the Destroyer?!  Man I did a good job blocking out that movie.  The only thing I could remember was the hall of mirriors with the gorilla man.

Thanks for the comments guys. Just to address the Steve Dean comment: You hit the nail right on the head. Dallimore is pretty much the guy I modeled my style after, and Dean paints in a very similar fashion. I'm glad to hear that, that shines through in my work because I draw a lot of inspiration from them. I've got some more stuff in the works. I'll keep you updated, and please feel free to check out my page.
