I *think* I based the idea of imperial elves being sea elves on a single page from one of the old Warhammer RPG books, but I may also have made it up because I thought it fit.

Any chance that inspiration could be from Marienburg - Sold Down the River (Hogshead Publishing, 1999)? There is a number of pages in that book dedicated to covering the autonomous sea elven neighbourhood ("Elftown").

Not wanting to derail the thread too badly, but since we are speaking of those WK sea elves, is there a chance that they might have drwan some inspiration from the Mark Copplestone's dark elf figures (for the Grenadier Fantasy Warriors series), or is the similarity just a coincidence?

Those figures are still available from Mirliton:

Thanks for the reminder, Forlorn Hope website actually has even better pictures of the figures:

https://forlornhopegames.co.uk/category/fantasy-warriors/dark_elves

Looking at those close-up pictures, I am almost getting an urge to get half a dozen of the bare-headed ones to use for renaissance fantasy skirmish gaming... must resist the temptation.

(That said, we might be starting to slip a bit from the original topic.)

@white knight: That is a snazzy paintjob. Did he use oils there?

@Griefbringer, anevilgiraffe: Out, the both of you! ;) Just kidding. It's really funny how often I've been to the mirliton website this week. On Bluesky I talked to a gentleman about just that Dark Elves range as well, and then I looked up some figures I'm painting for a lovely D&D collection right now. Apart from the usual gawking at the Goblin War Giant and the undead mammoth and rhino and so on...

@OSHIROmodels: Oh, thanks very much, Sir!

Well, things are happening!

Had the figures set up for over a week, had a guest, guest asked "What's that then? Good old Warhammer?". Guest returned tonight and we played the first turn. Report to follow soon-ish, I hope.

Nice looking pictures! The armies look really good- and having them based the same (or similar enough- can't tell for sure from this distance, but that's about the gamer's eye view!) is a nice bonus to keep it all cohesive. Great stuff!

Are those the magic cards from the 4th edition magic system (German version, I assume)? If so, man, we played those for ages- maybe something like ten years before we bought 6th edition. And the funny thing is that while I remember really enjoying 6th edition (a general feeling was it was less about the heroes and magic items and more about the troop movements), I can't remember a thing about its magic system- nothing quite like having a hand of cards to play out your spells, I guess!

Cheers!

Looks like the cocky little halflings managed to charge the dark elf riders threatening the flank of the Empire forces! How do you expect they will manage in combat? It should be quite a humiliation for their opponents to lose to such a force!

(Though if the halflings fare poorly, there might be chicken soup on the evening menu.)

I also have those. They did have some influence as I wanted something more than they were offering.  :)

Really lovely folks you have gathered there. Was also nice to stumble across you randomly in a Discord, when I noticed the same pictures and my brain made the connections  :D

@Frugalmax: Thank you! Yeah, I rebased my Dark Elves during the christmas holidays 2023 to get rid of the "grey rock and snow" theme. At this point I find army specific basing to be a thing I would not do again in my own armies. The armies have to fit the table, 90% of tables I play on are grass green. I like grass green bases with some patches of brown earth, different kinds of grass and flowers. Always looks good in my opinion. We used the German 5th edition magic set cards. Yup, I love that little game within a game that 4th/5th edition magic was. :) Most of my games happened during 6th edition, and I can't remember much about the magic system either. :D

@Griefbringer: Well, there have been several (to my ears very annoying at that point :D ) jokes about chicken meals.

@Mikai: Thank you! Yeah, funny how that goes sometimes. Pretty sure it was the first time that sorta Discord-forums-cross-feed happened this way rahter than the other way around. Many thanks for commenting!

Well, the game is finished now. I hope to get a battle report done some time in the near-ish future!
