We played another Star Wars themed game of Space Weirdos last night. It worked great! The scenario was straight from the first movie, with Stormtroopers boarding a smaller rebel ship looking for a high value target -- the Princess! Lot of fun with my friend Keith's (Orcafinn on LAF) printed cardboard spaceship terrain and the Wizards of the Coast prepainted Star Wars figures.

Although this game wasn't part of our campaign with six factions, we had a lot of fun and laughed our way through the game. Everyone said they're enjoying the rules, though we need to get better at remembering the various modifiers (or I need to design better character cards that include them!).

For the full battle report and lots more photos, check out my Lead Legionaries blog: https://leadlegionaries.blogspot.com/2025/05/star-wars-with-space-weirdos-imperial.html

Looks like a fun game. No dark lord of the Sith making an appearance?  lol

The pre-printed cardboard terrain looks fantastic! If I didn’t already have a ton of Battle systems terrain, I’d be seriously tempted to pick up that set.

I haven’t played Space Weirdos, how does it compare to other rule-sets you've tried?

Also, totally agree—“Out of Action” doesn’t necessarily mean dead!

Thanks, Simon! No dark lords appeared in this game. I wanted to make this last-minute scenario as quick and simple as possible. There were two stat lines for this game -- sergeant and trooper. The only difference between a Stormtrooper sergeant and a Rebel one was the weapon they were using.

I enjoy Space Weirdos. We had three players lose at least half of their four figs and one, I believe, was down to one guy. I am pretty sure most players lost at least one. Our experiences with Galactic Heroes is hardly anyone ever dies. Not to the extent of, say, Pulp Alley, but I wanted a game where figs do get taken Out of Action.

The play proceeds simply with players activating one figure in turn in Initiative order (which is rolled for every turn). Each side gets two Command Points, which are ways to either interrupt the acting player's movement/shooting/melee with a Overwatch/Dodge/First Strike. Most tactical modifiers move the dice type up or down (d4>d6>d8>d10>d12). Its a competitive die roll, with success by the attacker leading to a 2d6 roll for the result. Being two dice rather than a single averages out the extremes a little, but I think we did have a 2d8 beat a 2d12 once or twice.

It provides a relatively quick game. Six players with four figures each tends to take about 3 hours or so.

Thanks everyone, again, for the kind words!

Great writeups!  Our group just discovered the Weirdos line of games.  We've tried out Sword Weirdos but not Space Weirdos yet.  Thanks for the inspiration!

Looks good and sounds fun. I might have to check out the rules. Who sells the scenery?

That base is awesome!

Did you print and then paste on thick card? It’s really cool!

The cardboard terrain is a commercial set from Gale Force 9. It is from their Tenfold Dungeon line and is called, "Starship Vengeance." Here's the link:
https://www.gf9games.com/tenfold/304/starship-vengeance/

The scenery bits placed in the rooms are mostly from a company called A Critical Hit. Their website is a work in progress, and you may or may not be able to find things on there:

Thanks again for the kind comments!

A great looking game Mike, I do like those Tenfold Dungeon sets. Those are the same range of Star Wars models I've got (I also have a bunch of the Hoth troopers as well). Looks like I should give Space Weirdos a try - like I really need yet another ruleset!

I painted up some "Desert Rock Formations" -- 3-D printed pieces from Diabolical Terrain (https://diabolicalterrain.com/). I figure these will be perfect for my games on Tatooine. In fact, the next scenario I have in my mind for our campaign will be set out in the planet's "desertscape" at an Imperial TIE Fighter base.

So, I plan these things being along the edges, with a desert mat, should do a decent job of evoking a Star Wars scene. They painted up very quickly. Four steps, if you don't count the final spray coat of acrylic matte. Check out my blog post for more photos and discussion of how I did these:

Thanks in advance for any comments!

Those rocks are pure sci-fi gold!

I can almost hear the dramatic Star Trek fight music as Captain Kirk scrambles over them, desperately dodging a slow-moving Gorn.  lol

Honestly, they look like they were borrowed straight from the set - just waiting for a cinematic showdown!
