Guards of Traitors Toll Box Set
« on: May 18, 2025, 01:50:34 PM »
Finished up the box set for guards of traitors toll.  I figured that it would be helpful for folks to see what you can do with the kit and the variety of pieces that are available to make individual characters.  I did add some parts from other kits and I will identify them as they come up.  I am posting the models by pose so you can see the variation in parts.

From L to R.  Guard with a sword, guard with a mace, lady with a fish (either offering or getting ready to slap someone with), lady with a bottle, lady with a huge hand (the only oversized hand on the sprue) and lady with a owl.  There are no parts from other kits in this batch.

Guard with a sword and shield, guard with a sword, lady with a ladle, lady with a harp and a cat, lady with a gemstone, and a lady with a milk pail and a sack.  The shield, the harp and the cat are the only parts from other kits in this batch.

Guard with a hailberd, guard with a sword and lantern, man with a book, man with a pigeon and a coin, man with a pipe and cane and a man with a money bag.

Guard with a mace and chain, guard with a hailberd and keys, ruffian with a knife, man with a sickle, ruffian with a bit of wood with a nail in it, beggar with a staff and a coin.  The only part that was added was the coin in the beggars hand.  Punched that out of a bit of card.

Guard with a crossbow, guard with a bow, man with a sickle, man with a pick ax, man with an ax, man with a staff carrying a sack.  The only part added on these was a bit of cotton for the bow string.

Captain with a great sword, captain with a sword, woman with a fan, upset woman with a dagger, woman with a flute and a woman with a wand, mask and burning skull.  There were no parts from other kits on this one but I did green stuff the flames on the skull.

The old Crone from Monty Python and the Holy Grail (Hayland Miniatures), two geese from the soldiers sprue.

Group shot of the villagers.

Group shot of the guards

Extra heads and arms that were not used. There are plenty of other bits that went directly into my bits box.

All and all I do not have many complaints about this kit.  It has a huge amount of bits to work with and enough parts to make every model an individual.
I also think they will fit in with my current villagers that are set in vignette bases.

Hope you like.

Those look quite good and I think you’re right about them fitting with your vignettes. That will be a very lively town with a lot of variety in the residents.

These are great -- thanks for showing us different varieties of what you can do with them. Now, let's see a game with them...!  :D

Those are most excellent, I also love your multi base ones.

I definitely need more villagers and townsfolk in all my genres.

Great job on those.  I think we need some closer pictures of your vignettes too.

I've built my villagers, just need to find the time to slap some colour on them.

I finished them up back in 2021.

The figures are very nice, and offer a lot of possibilities.
Here’s my first two batches of civilians and two sets of guards.
The serpentman sorcerer is an old figure painted in the 80s., and the all female guards in blue and white are mostly Frostgrave female soldiers (apart from the captain)

I've only built one sprue of civilians so far, but they were good fun. I then went on a slight tanget and bought a bunch of Reaper civilains, to add a bit of variety. They have kids, mothers with kids and a bloke in the stocks, so make the place look more lived in.

I am hoping to use some of the Frostgrave wizards as merchants, and I like the use of the female soldiers as a guard unit. I'll need to see how many of them I have left, as it was a useful set.

My only gripe with the plastics is that the head and neck is a flat join. This makes it difficult to do much with the heads other than look forward, and getting them to work with other sets (eg Frostgrave) will be a real pain :(

do you need specific civilians for the game? or is it a case of make what you fancy?

The civilians fall into six categories, and there are 5 items in each category, but of course one figure may fall into multiple categories or carry several items. It’s not critical though. I’ve done cards for each figure with a picture, name and tupe, so you just draw a card instead of rolling on the table

Ideally, you'd have at least one civilian on the tabletop that matches every possible factor for identifying the perp. But that's not strictly necessary, as you can always default to another identifying factor from the same category if you don't have the specific match available. There are also more civilians in the box than you need for a standard game.

Many thanks for the kind words.

This is a bit of an issue.  My biggest gripe was the power walking woman.  She was difficult to figure stuff out for.

As noted, they will need to fit into one category or other.

Nicely done.  You took way more time on them then I can give.
