Bigger game in Middle Earth with midgard
« on: May 30, 2025, 03:23:20 PM »
Mark came over for his second game with Midgard. I think it's a testament to the strength of the rules that, even with his limited experience of the rules, we could still play a big game in about four and a half hours, including a break for lunch! Full details on the blog https://grahamsgaming.blogspot.com/2025/05/elves-vs-orcs-with-midgard.html

You two with your identical avatars. At first glance I thought that Sunjester had given himself a compliment in the first reply! I thought "well, he's not wrong, but still...." :D :D

Yup, it is a very cool looking game. Many thanks for the write-up too! At some point I'll have to give Midgard a go.

I thought the same! Not that I'm any better, half the forum apparently picked the same profile as me! All aside, looks like a fantastic game :)

Great looking game and looks like you had a lot of fun. The Midgard rules are very tempting.

Thank for the report.

Can you share the army list?  I am curious of the traits you used.

What is the purpose of many of the markers I see around the table in Midgard photos?

What is the purpose of many of the markers I see around the table in Midgard photos?
* 'Charging/winning' - to remind you which units gain the 're-roll your ones in combat' related to either charging or having won the previous combat.
* Markers to indicate how many 'mighty deeds' each character has left. Most people try to choose themed ones for their army. I used Viking style beard rings for my Arthurian army but anything will do.
* Markers to indicate loss of stamina in a unit. You can remove casualties for this but many players have 'full unit bases' rather than sabots. Many people use mini dice or 'wound counters' or 'blood drop counters' for this.

Some people hate too many markers on a table. I personally think Midgard treads the right side of that line, but others may disagree.

Got it. I am one who would prefer little to nothing else on the table aside from figures and terrain. My figures would be individually based on square bases and ranked up, so I should be fine removing casualties for the last point.
