1971 India-Pakistan War - Bangladesh movie “Pippa”
« on: 10 June 2025, 03:29:58 AM »
Watched a decent enough movie on Amazon today. “Pippa” tells the story of the 45th Indian Cavalry, equipped with the PT-76 “Pippa”, during the 13 day conflict leading to independent Bangladesh.

Bit of Bollywood, hilarious scene with Russian female advisor dancing as the gallant armoured captain tries to charm her.

Based on some accounts so there is a bit of historicity behind it, including a few news clips interspersed.

Had to watch with sub-titles.

The obligatory dance scenes are a bit jarring to western audiences but some Bollywood films are better than the Hollywood ones - "Baazigar" is probably better than "A kiss before dying" for example, certainly has more twists and turns in it.
May have to look out for "Pippa" at some point.

My "suspension of disbelief" alarm goes off anytime someone breaks out into a song or dance routine in a movie. That's why I abhor musicals...  lol

It’s one scene. And it is of such good humour value it’s worth sitting through  lol

God knows why. West Side Story remains one of the most accurate depictions of gang warfare and urban combat in general and it has some real toe tappers. :D

Cats on the other hand is an extremely well thought out critique of the worst excesses and the impending collapse of decadent venture capitalism, focussing on the entertainmnet industry for its narrative. Musically it is abysmal.

As Mr Meatloaf might have said 'You took the words right outta my mouth'.

Hmm... it opens up possibilities. Rules set to music. I guess the digital download is easy enough. For the print edition do we make it like those birthday cards that make a tinny Happy Birthday sound or do we package them with a CD? Oh and before you say millenials won't know what a CD is, I know the wargaming market, at least half would want a gramophone record.

Mike, you have a new goal in life. Write the first set of rules that makes it on to Spotify.  Mike and the Rules Mechanics.  :D

R/c tanks have had sound boards for years, can't see a problem with fitting a sound board, speaker and battery into a rulebook hard cover - of course, on Kindle it would be even easier to link the book to a soundtrack file (or files) on the notebook or other device. Definitely do-able!  lol

Mike may be Silent Running at this point.

Either that or he's busy putting a tribute band together!  lol

To get things back on track (no pun intended), I enjoyed the movie as well - even if the sudden dance number did surprise me a bit!

Here's my review:
