Starting again with DBA with new painted armies
« on: 16 June 2025, 11:21:31 PM »
Hello, I'm not 100% sure but I think I haven't posted my latest DBA armies here. I sold my old armies but I am again painting new ones and playing a lot to DBA 3.0, although we are only four players.

I started with classic Essex Gallic army II/11 and Polybian Roman II/33:

Then I did a 3D Breed II/9 Siracusan army:

And finally another Essex army, II/40 Numidian:

Also, I have painted a II/81c Romano British army from Cromarty that later I upgraded to both II/81 Dux Brit and II/78a Western Roman army:

II/81 Dux Brit

II/78a Western Roman army

I also recycled this army to build an Arthurian one for DBF by adding Merlin, Arthur hero and a red dragon:

And now I'm finishing an Essex IV/3 Anglo-Norman army.

You can see more pictures in my blog: https://javieratwar.blogspot.com/search/label/Gallery.%2015%20mm.%20DBA
Cheers,

I like your armies Javier. One question what is DBF? Isn't the fantasy version of DBA called HOTT?
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

De Bellis Fantasiae (DBF) is the fantasy version for DBA 3.0, like a successor of HotT but for bigger battles. There is a FB official group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/965772645481569
Thank you!

Very nice!
Really impressed you managed individual shields for all the Gallic infantry.
What's your opinion on the Cromity minis? I've looked at them a few times, but they seem very well fed compared to Essex etc? Additionally I'm not sure how they compare to paint etc.

Cromarty are my favourites. They are well proportioned and as I said, I love they come in integrated bases. They're slightly taller than Essex but you can't tell from distance. Also, they are a joy to paint, especially if you are using contrast or diluted paints. Here you have an example:

As you can see in the closeups, the priming spray ruined the miniatures  :(

Another thing I like about Cromarty is their cavalry is thin enough to fit four of them into a base:

Nice work and good to see those Cromarty in the flesh so to speak. I'm guessing they don't break easily?

I think they way they are sculpted is more solid than 3D breed, but the most important point here is the quality of the resin you are using.
