Posting photos to Google blogs issue?
« on: June 18, 2025, 12:49:14 AM »
I've recently noticed when I post photos to my Google blogs that, instead of seeing the photo image, I'm seeing what appears to be computer code instead.  Have others had this issue and, if so, any idea as to why?  And thoughts on how to fix?  Don't think I changed any settings that would impact this.

Note that once I "update" a new post or page entry the photos show fine for reading/viewing.  It is just at the entry stage of adding photos.

Thanks for any assistance.

I haven't had that happen for me, yet, on my Lead Legionaries blog.

No issue on my Blog (yet) either, other than the constant Firefox can't log into Google warnings (and then suddenly it can, and then 6 times it can't)

is google blogs the same as blogspot?

When you say computer code, you mean < > brackets and so on? is anything else showing as < > ? They have a WYSIWYG setting, oddly can't log into the back office to check, but it's one of the picklist options at the top.

Does it look something like this...?

Code: [Select]
data:image/png;base64, iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAUA
    AAAFCAYAAACNbyblAAAAHElEQVQI12P4//8/w38GIAXDIBKE0DHxgljNBAAO
        9TXL0Y4OHwAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==

If so, those are still images, just ones that are embedded in the page instead of being files.

Katie, sort of.  Here is a partial copy and paste:

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicjVCiS-arMOs1CP5ZHSy3WTO2AC68x1bJ7cIk0BJvH9EWug-TcyXNYXcCllFw9fJ0JbW_ltPXQAo7fJlQahUBrd9FL6-DvmPG7PuDqxEeIwT9jTQTY-hB7ie9SxLgzMm6WIZbyF6KfjT-F-ynTm_aZLskQ148m08-MFZ2-dEdjuNz5qR_qTlR0pNzolr4/s2016/IMG_0003.jpg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" height="600" data-original-height="2016" data-original-width="1512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.co

Once I post the images, they show fine, just not while working on a post - makes it a challenge to do reports with photos.

Ahhhh.. I see. Yes... they're generating storage names for the images so you then can't tell what they are to talk about them.

You could copy the bit between where it says href=" through to the .jpg on the end (the text between the quote marks), open a new browser tab and paste it into the address bar.

It'll be generating this "new" name for the photo at the point it gets added to the post and ought to be available a few seconds later. You'd at least have a view of it then & can check it matches what you're writing.

Technical details -- it's because they'll be going in what we call a "key-value store". Items in there need a name that can be sorted on a particular way, but (for complicated reasons) can only have one name and so can't keep the one you gave it.

I'm going to guess that the string contains something like an encoded version of your blogger identity, an encoded reference to the post and some other metadata which makes it easy to find all the images for a post / for a user without those things being 'guessable' without a reference link.

(I actually wrote a small bit of the code for Blogger! Part of the system used by the operators to respond to hacking attempts.)

What browser are you using? And what version of your OS?

What it looks like is that the Blogger code is injecting the HTML code for the image you uploaded but your browser is not rendering it.

Have you added any new extensions recently? Maybe something related to security?
