Boer War Project- Mounted Boer Guerillas
« on: June 25, 2025, 08:23:59 PM »
Hello all

More 2nd Boer War pictures. I am slowly building a force of mounted Boer guerillas. All inspired by that scene in Breaker Morant of the dawn attack by mounted Boer Guerillas on the British camp where The Breaker and co are jailed.

This lot are making a get away from a Zulu village they have just been raiding for supplies. Or perhaps they are escaping from the pride of lions which has appeared in the village….

All Foundry figures. A fair few conversions. Two are British mounted infantry with head swaps and other tweaks. Still wearing British khaki they risk Rule 303…..

The huts are from the much missed Monolith Designs . The mat , Game Mats,  from Poland.

Hope you like.

Scott

Very nice work, and great to see this lovely old range painted up.  Many years ago I was tempted to get into the 2nd Boer War, after reading Thomas Pakenham's book, but never got round to it.  Looking forward to what comes next. Some opposition Imperial Yeomanry perhaps?

Hello Thew2,

Great book there. He wrote it at a time when there were still a fair number of veterans to speak to. Always felt that really added to the text.

I do the war in 10 mm using Pendraken for bigger battles, 28s for skirmishing.

You read my mind. Working on some British mounted types, including yeomanry, as well as dismounted versions.

Calling the range old made me chuckle. I recall when it first came out. State of the art. Even today they hold their own.

Keep your eyes peeled for more.

Scott

10mm sounds sensible for the larger battles.

Perhaps I should have described the range as "approaching middle age".  As you say, whatever their age, they are still wonderful figures.  I've always particularly liked the infantry officer in slouch hat, with his thumb tucked into his belt.

Looking forward to the next installment.

Indeed! He is an excellent sculpt, very characterful. If time allows I might get a few more pictures uploaded over the weekend. Watch this space.

Hello Traveller. Thanks for the kind words. I do try to evoke a sense of place in my games and try to match bases to game mat and terrain pieces to the mat. All part of the immersion that skirmish games can be about.

More pictures soon.
