Dark Age fleeing figures 28/30 mm
« on: 26 June 2025, 04:09:16 PM »
I spent some time going through my Dark Age lead pile and came across only one figure that might pass as a warrior who is fleeing the battlefield. I looked at my Gripping Beast plastics and cant at the moment visualize how to convert any of these to fleeing warriors.
Can anyone suggest any manufacturers? My Googling turned up nothing.

Football (soccer to our friends across the pond) figures from the likes of Eureka miniatures

They are running, they have a tunic type top & are not carrying shields or weapons. A little bit of greenstuff / milliput etc
and they would be good to go. :)

Can't you just use charging figures without weapons?

Irregular have some unarmed running dark age types buried in their 25/8mm Scenics & Accessories section:

Yes, that seemed to me the obvious solution, but the figures just don't look right.  It's the hands.

The hands give away a lot (especially with aggression and fear) - maybe you could soften the poses by adding some open hands from other kits if they match size wise (fireforge peasants and undead peasants or the Frostgrave wizards sprues have a good number of open hands I think) and/or cutting and reposing the stock arms if plastic - although I admit just getting a realistic body position out of some kits can be difficult enough  lol

Potentially some weapons could still be clutched (maybe even if broken) in desperate flight - although presumably people did tend to drop their shields (as in “with your shield or on it”)

How many do you need?

I took a quick look at my long ignored GB Viking plastics and it looks like the Unarmoured warriors sprue would maybe be a good start for fleeing warriors. Perry miniatures WOTR archer arms/hands might be useful for kitbashing and I'd be tempted to see what arms/or hands from Warlord games bolt action plastics might work too. I'd start by looking at the blitzkrieg Germans first as I think there are a few interesting hands/arms in that kit iirc.
I wonder if it might be useful have some dead warriors alongside the retreating ones to drive the narrative?
