Multi-day battle generates lots of interesting decisions
« on: July 02, 2025, 08:45:11 AM »
Six of us had a splendid time on Sunday fighting the three-day battle of Pered (1849), which gave the players plenty of major decisions to make.
I like to think of this as "Hungary's Waterloo" as there are so many parallels: basically, the Hungarians are trying to beat the Austrian army before the Russians can turn up to save them.

Nice :)

The first significant use of military railways were the 1848 Austrian reinforcements sent to Hungary after the defeat of Jellasich at Pákozd. The Pest-Szolnok railway line also played a major role in the Hungarian evacuation of Buda-Pest; and the Hungarian National Guard organization was made from the beginning by steam transport in mind, HQs were located in the ends of that Pest-Szolnok line (note that Pest is on the Danube, Szolnok on the Tisza, the two biggest rivers of Hungary).

Good point, Freddy. Different episodes, same war.
