Standing and/or walking horses in 28mm
« on: 05 July 2025, 11:47:59 PM »
I bought some carts from Temu to use in Guards of Traitors Toll.  They're a bit big, but they'll do.  Unfortunately they come without horses...fine for some static terrain, but the rules allow for random movement of carts as well as the townsfolk, so I'm looking for a few standing and walking horses draft horses suitable for a medieval/fantasy town and maybe a couple with saddles for when a mounted guard dismounts.  Oh and a couple to go in the stables and the holy grail would be one being shoed by a farrier.

If anyone can point me in the direction of manufacturers for any of the above I would be very grateful.

I think a few of the historical miniatures manufacturers make draft horses with relatively sedate poses. Essex Miniatures springs to mind, but I’m sure others sell them too (Perry Miniatures would be worth a look).

There are a few by Essex on this page: https://www.essexminiatures.co.uk/collections/25mm-unarmoured-unbarded-horses

The old Ertl horses are great for your purposes.

Dude, PM me your name and address, I have a couple of walking draught horses I picked up in a job lot and have just been hanging around. They're yours, call it a 'Pay it Forward' deal.

Perry miniatures also sell individual sprues of their Wars of the Roses horses, if you wanted more of a medieval type saddle.

Why is it nobody sells stirrups and straps for you to attach to standing, riderless horses? Sure, I know they'd be fiddly, but they would just finish off a model!  lol

Not sure what the general feeling is about the quality of the WizKids unpainted miniatures is (I have a few- I like their scenic stuff but didn't like the human/character sized miniatures much), and I know theye've also raised their prices a good bit in the last few years, but they make some standing horses.

Right now I can only find this one on their site (https://shop.wizkids.com/products/wizkids-deep-cuts-horse-hitch), but there used to be one with a saddle and stirrups- perhaps available through other retailers if now out of print?
I have a YouTube and so can you!

If you have a look through Alternative Armies ranges, they have a few wagons mixed in with the option to buy horses separately.

In fact, most of the horses are listed under their battlefield bits and accessories section (https://www.alternative-armies.com/collections/battlefield-bits-and-accessories).

Anything from the old Asgard ranges will probably be a bit small, but their Flinftloque horses and later ranges will be larger (and most have scale pictures in their description).
