A place to post about ‘Epic’ Pikes and Muskets
« on: August 03, 2025, 03:11:21 PM »
My understanding is that there is a FaceBook group that gives a focus to the Epic Range by Warlord Games, but I don’t use FaceBook and posts here generally seem infrequent and easily fragmented, so perhaps those of us with an interest in Epic style armies might use this thread to post our ideas and games etc.

As much as I like the MDF buildings that come with the Epic sets, they are scaled to 15mm and i game on a smaller table, so my preference is to use terrain that is one scale lower than the figures, which for me makes 10mm terrain a good working solution.

Battlescale do some lovely buildings and bridges etc in a good quality resin (solid pieces without air bubbles) and these are currently being sold by Pendraken.

I have bought 7 buildings done in the Tudor style of wood frame, plus a large stone English church and a couple of bridges - unfortunately the buildings themselves are still unpainted, but a good fit never-the-less.

I won't be able to work on my pike and shot epic until next year, but I intend to base them on 60x40 for the shot and 60x80 or so for the pike, and do both deeper. I just love the look of massed troops.

Yes, I am increasing stepping outside the official basing system for all things Epic. I was not going as deep as you, but I might re-think that. For my Pike & Shotte units, I planned for a single base of 4 ranks of pike and for the sleeves, I will cut each musket strip in half, but then rank them 3 Deep on a 30mm wide base. I think the visual will be okay and it will help my small table.
