20mm Infantry and gun - US retailers
« on: August 03, 2025, 11:04:18 PM »
Looking to get into 20mm WW2 gaming. I know of Eureka that sells AB minis. Looking for other US retailers that carry 20mm infantry and guns.

I don't mind UK retailers if shipping isn't too high.

Thanks

So there's FAA that's US-based, but I don't think their Americans are as good as some of their other lines, like the Dutch and Norwegians.

If shipping isn't a concern, I would look into Plana Mayor and Simon's Soldiers as both share the same sculptor.

Oh man, those Simon's soldiers are so nice, but shipping is way too high.

Have you considered 1/72 plastics?  There are a lot of options there, and they normally fit reasonably well with 20mm figures (in my opinion).  There are a few places you can get them in the states, and this site is a good resource for them...https://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/PeriodList.aspx?period=1

CapnJim really does have the best idea so far - 15mm was always a more popular ww2 scale in the US, 20mm more a UK/European scale. The Zvezda gun and infantry packs for their ww2 series of games are 20mm (whilst the vehicles are 15mm - no I don't understand either) and are in a slightly firmer plastic than the usual soft plastic sets - well worth a look if you can find them, although the emphasis is mostly Soviet/German forces.
Failing that, all I can suggest is that you email US distributors of, say, Wargames Foundry and see if they'd include ww2 figures in their next order - I know there are a few US retailers that occasionally stock Foundry (I don't know of any others). Force 20 figures are available in the US but I don't know what figures they do in their ww2 range. Not a lot of help, I know, but good luck.

So 20mm used to be popular in the 1990s and early 2000s before the advent of Flames of War, with the likes of Raventhorpe, CP Models, SHQ, Fantassin, and Battlefield Miniatures all having a US stockist. In fact there were also a number of homegrown American brands, Sojers and Sgt Major Miniatures being two that immediately spring to mind. All in the past now of course.

GDW's Command Decision used 20mm figures as well, before shifting to 15mm with the Old Glory range. That raised the popularity of 15mm's over 20mm's long before Flames of War came onto the scene.

There are a few stockists of the Plastic Soldier Company in the US and they do sets of 20mm hard plastic figures (and vehicles), which might be another possibility: Brookhurst, Noble Knight and On Military Matters I think.

I still recall there being a significant number of 20mm Command Decision III games at conventions around the time Flames of War came out, so perhaps there is a case to be made that it was Battlefront that help accelerate the adoption of 15mm as the dominant scale.

To think there was a time when Brookhurst stocked Qualiticast, Battlefield, B&B, and SHQ!
