BoomHammer Workshop
« on: August 10, 2025, 01:41:16 PM »
Here's my most recent regiment done and dusted for use in mine and Gibby's Warhammer Fantasy Battle Renaissance campaign.

I've gone for a solidly 90s inspired Empire Altdorf army, without breaking the bank by using more modern miniatures with plenty of sculpting, kitbashing and creativity. These spearmen are inspired by the monopause halberdiers but with bright yellow shields and spears instead of halberds as I prefer how that looks.

I created the decals myself and the banner. These were drawn digitally and then printed.

Kits used are - Warlord Games Landsknecht, Wargames Atlanic Conquistadors, Perry Miniatures War of The Roses.

The shields are original early 90s shields so have a nice mix of styles.

Lovely work, very cool old school vibes.

The yellow shields look excellent, nice contrast with the uniforms.

I'm having fun spotting the bits of the different kits, but did you have to sculpt the ruffles on the spears?

Absolutely gorgeous! And the mixture of non-GW kits to achieve a convincing 90s look is especially good. Very, very well done!  :-*

If you don't mind one small observation, it's that a little bit of filler to smooth out the integral bases on top of the slottas would go a long way to hiding the only real evidence that these might not be GW models. As it's literally just smoothing the transition, a little bit of ready-mixed filler/plaster works well and is very cheap for a project like this.

Thank you for sharing these, and I look forward to seeing more units as you work on them. :)

Thanks everyone! Really appreciate the feedback.

Yes, I did think about doing that for the bases but I just totally forgot and now my whole army is like that - so for consistency, I can't change it. I've already rebased everything once already!

I did indeed sculpt the ruffles on the spears, very convenient as the originals are pikes so I had to cut down... and the ruffle is great for that added support.

I was struggling with colour schemes, but the bright yellow really worked in my favour here...

Next up, is my Greatswords that will have a somewhat 'Scots' influence to them...

That's fair!  :)

Aaah, I did wonder. You did a very neat and consistent job of those, and I wouldn't have guessed you sculpted them all - well done!

Nice work.
Initially thought they were GW figures.
You may have found me a new source of 'empire' bits to mix with skeleton bits!
