15mm Romans identification help
« on: August 21, 2025, 04:43:13 PM »
I just uncovered in the Pile of Shame a small stash of Republican Romans in 15mm with codes marked on the bags, as follows. Any idea what manufacturer these might be? They've been buried awhile, so it is perhaps a manufacturer that no longer exists.

MW RR1 and RR10 Horse and foot command
MW RR2/RR4 Republican Roman Hastati/Principes
MW RR5 Republican Roman Triari
MW RR6 Republican Roman Italian Allies
MW RR8 Republican Roman cavalry

I don't have anything else with the "MW" abbreviation and could not quickly find such a code online either.

Thanks for your help!!

Hmm no real idea on that. The closest might be Khurasan that use PMW as a code for their Republican Roman era figures, or Old Glory that use the 'RR' codes but not sure what the mw would stand for in that case?

Thanks, mate. The OG ones I have sorted, and properly identified. Just checked the Khurasan page also but could not see package codes, just descriptions. Could be them, though I can't recall buying any. Will dig a bit more later this evening.

Other suggestions super welcome!!

Thanks again.

Having dug a bit deeper, I think they are the Old Glory 15's that are now sold by Timecast. The RR codes seem to match up although I still don't know what the MW might stand for!
Hope this helps.
Tin Soldier UK use the same RR code but the descriptions don't seem to match the numbers.
That's all I've got.
(Almost all) - the MW might refer to the 'Marian Wars' range that Old Glory used to do?

Can you post some pictures of the figures, it might make IDing them easier?

Thanks, Rick - when I get a sec I'll rummage the OGs I have and cross-reference. (Good thought on 'Marian Wars' too. Could certainly be that.)

Arbedark, thanks for the suggestion - and if Rick's hunch is not correct, I'll try posting a pic - though this is daunting for aging Luddites!

MW = Miniature Wars By Marco Campagna?

The codes/units seem to correspond, now OOB owned by "Strategia Nova" in Rome, Italy.

It was one of my first DBA armies painted back in 2005 ;)

Ciao

Hello PWS,

YES - those are the exact ones!! Thanks so much. Wow! Really appreciated!!

I even remember where and when I got them now, during a trip to Italy close on 20 years ago, when we visited a shop during a huge Sunday fascist rally, and we wove our way across the street through polite - but loudly singing and stomping - blackshirt ranks to get to the small hobby shop. My wife chatted with the owner while I shopped, and he essentially said, 'no worries, mame, they protest every month or so, but always on Sundays so they don't interrupt business or traffic', and sure enough everything was calm. When we went back to the subway, we wove our way through the crowds again without incident.

I'd totally forgotten. HUGE thanks!!

It was in the "strategia & tattica" shop for sure near the main railway station, they change name and location but they are still in business ;)

I'll get back there one of these days, if that's the case. Thanks!
