There's a back-story to this.
I gave my students at Uni an assignment last semester on materials selection procedures, and to get away from the usual rut I gave each of them a component which is part of a sci fi vehicle or object, but which can be created with present technology - for example, the struts of the landing gear of a Space 1999 Eagle, or the aerodynamic surfaces of Seagull X-Ray (U.F.O., my favourite vehicle in that series). I think some of them had fun looking up old TV series or films they'd never heard about. Or at least I like to believe that.
This morning I had an email from a student who asked me (as a local expert on sci fi!) what the name of that thing is, as they want to somehow mention it in a design project they're doing this semester - and I had to admit I didn't know. So thanks guys, you've helped the Faculty
