Minis for Gothic Horror games
« on: December 16, 2009, 03:17:38 PM »
Hey ya'll...
I have been looking around here in this forum and it looks like Horror games would be a ton of fun, so I got a bunch of the West Wind figure packs and have started painting.
But is it just me, or does it look like most of the Gothic Horror figs are from West Wind only... And I am not too wild about some of those sculpts...

So my question is: Who else makes 28mm figs that would work in a Gothic Horror game, other than West Wind?
Thanks!

For human characters, I have used figures by Foundry, particulalry their Victorian bystanders and townsfolk with guns(perfect for Vic London gents and ladies) Eureka, Blue Moon, Reaper, Ironclad, Copplestone, Chiltern Miniatures, basically anyone who makes 28mm Victorian era figures. Some you might have to convert to hold stakes/crosses etc,

Creatures come from all sorts of sources, Vampires can be found in most fantasy ranges. I especially like some of the Reaper Vampires and old Ral Partha ones. Blue Moon  have several boxed sets including Vampires and Werewolves. GW also have both.
Chiltern minatures have Vampires and Frankensteins Creature, as do Eureka. I am sure there are lots of others that will come to mind soon.

I really like the Westwind stuff, its a very complete range and once painted the figures look great. See Mike D. McBrice's recent posting on CIC warbands for some great examples.

Have a look at my Displaced files:
There are lots of  Vampires, Vampire Hunters etc, mostly with comments to identify the manufacturer:

Here are some chaps that have seen service in my games. All standing in front of the Westwind Graveyard gate:

Reaper has many nice figures in their ranges, but they are not stated as being for gothic horror. You have to look through their site or catalogue.

Heresy make some very cool creatures that would work well.

As for other monster types I will be releasing some in the New Year.

It might be best to ask for specific types of miniatures then people can piont you in the right direction. As has been mentioned Reaper do some great monster types.

I like the Westwind Gothic Horror range and have quite a few miniatures from it.I dont even play Gothic Horror games.More of a miniatures addict.

Any idea's as to what miniatures people would like to see would be good to know too.

Overall I like the look of the West Wind figs, but some of those faces... :-[ Not too good.

It seems like most of the women have the same face.  Same goes for some of the men folk (that don't have beards.  The bearded ones seem to have different faces....)

The Horrorclix Nosferatu is fantastic looking!  They also have some very nice wolf figures from their first set, including a rare or vetran version that is made from translucent plastic.

There's always Horrorclix. There are some there that would work

Manic miner, what company do you work for? In regards to monsters that I would like to see, hmm.. I would love to see the undead templars from the Blind Dead series.
I would buy at least a dozen of those guys, mounted and unmounted.

A Paul Naschy look-a-like (pointy eared werewolf and Waldemar) would be wonderful too. Nether he or my other character choice, Coffin Joe, are paticularily gothic horror, but they would be great to have.
