Removing Heroclix figs
« on: 16 December 2009, 06:25:43 PM »
Hiya guys im working on the INQ Superhero variant and i want to remove the Heroclix models from the big base and put them on standard round ones.

Which is the best way to remove them from the original base?

I just use clippers and an x-acto knife.

The careful application of a sharp knife and swearing when it eventually pings off and the knife hurtles towards your finger works best i find...

Normally, you can slip the knife blade under the foot and twist it slightly so they pop off, but some are glued down so hard you'll need to literally cut through the whole thing. Also, there seems to be two types of feet - plain feet and those with a moulded on circle - i find plain feet pop off easier (due to the smaller surace area) but with the circular feet i find it easier to remove the whole thing from the base and trim it down in increments rather then trying to cut them off while still attached to the base.

Agreed. Insert exacto knife between figure and base and rock back and forth, exerting pressure until figure is released and you gash your finger... >:(

put them in the freezer for a couple of hours, then they break off the base very easily, without the loss of fingers or bloodshed.

If you care about the figures but don't care at all about the bases then utterly hacking the base to pieces then trimming whatever is left off the model is the best way with anything like that.

Generally less chance of damage to extremities too...both your own and the models.

Pretty much what I've been doing for a few years now.  The figures from the newer sets are easier to remove without damaging the figure.  They are attatched to a small base which is them glued to the clixs base.  It's fairly simple to carefully remove it with an exacto knife.

I'll second the freezer trick. Very handy.

I use a broad bladed work knife. Wiggle it under the foot, push slightly, then twist it. Usually pops right off. Also I'm usually sitting near a paramedic when doing so, just in case.

This was my method too. Eventually I used an old (unmatched) leather glove to hold the fig. That glove now has a hole in the finger where I always had those little cuts instead...

That involves waiting though. I'll generally take risk of grievous injury over waiting a short while any day...
