Congo twin bill (very pic heavy)
« on: 17 September 2025, 03:40:22 AM »
Ran some Congo a couple weekends back with the usual suspects. Had Forest Tribes v. African Kingdoms, and White Men v. The Zanzibaris.

The savannah side managed two games, but the jungle side bogged down movement and shooting, so they only managed one down-to-the-last-couple-units game.

And some action shots:

A very cool looking table - a great setup.

I did particularly like the flamingos.

Lots of photos is a good thing! I'm not sure that flagging a thread as pic heavy really is a thing in these days of fast broadband.

Thanks folks, appreciate the comments.

Putting local flora and fauna on the table is one the main attractions for me when gaming colonial or pulp era - for that matter any other period or location as well.

I bought a bunch of these Safari Limited Good Luck flamingos a few years back on a trip to San Diego. Was in a local museum where they had big candy jars full of different critters from that line. I cleaned out all the flamingos…  :o

I later found a source online to buy direct, and bought a quart size bag of them. :)

Indeed, very nice looking game with all the wildlife, green or 'ambulatory'.

"Why do, when you can overdo !?!"

Amen and hallelujah to that thought - why I have so many hundreds of animals for Africa, hundreds painted, hundreds more to finish painting.  And, no, I don't care if it is overkill - it is just fun.   ;)

Good work.

I happened to be in Michaels today (go figure) and saw a packet of the Good Luck minis - sea creatures. It dawned on me the big bulk bag of items I bought was not flamingos, but rather jellyfish. Drrp.

I have plans to do jellyfish swarms for undersea gaming (DeepWars, X-COM Terror From The Deep, etc.)

Great pics!  We've been talking about breaking out some Congo, this makes me want to do it more.

It’s a lot of fun - I like that you can’t do everything you want every turn.

Dang, forgot to mention that cool little detail of the ox peckers on the buffalo.  Love that.

Thanks. They’re 3D prints. It was a fun little addition. Have a whole bunch more I need to paint up - seems they hang out on a lot of species.

What I really want to do is some egrets for the bases.

Egrets?  Try Miniprints out of Canada: https://miniprints.com/?srsltid=AfmBOopaErOz67rr5Pfo2aVxKz18HfpCfQ9IChxSdmoXZBzNKZimw_7q.  Pricey and a little slow in printing and shipping (perhaps based on volume of orders) and often supports to deal with but stuff no one else has available.  The O scale offerings should work, animals being a bit larger than scale will make them easier to paint; I use the HO size for my 15 mm figures.  No idea about STLs to print yourself but they might be out there.
