I don't know if this is of much interest to the good people here, but the Modelrail Scotland show is this weekend in Glasgow at the SECC. Friday to Sunday, 24th to the 26th of February. It might be of some interest to the railway wargamers?

http://www.modelrail-scotland.co.uk/mobie/

I usually find the layouts are great inspiration!

Best thing I found last year was this, a 1:72 strippers caravan!!

I'll try and get some good pictures.

Well, I'm just back from the show and I can diffenatly say it was soo much better than last year!! Lots of really impressive layouts and great inspiration! I've taken a load of pictures and I'd thought I'd put them up here to let people see some of the better stuff....

This one has to be one my favourite layouts there. A WWII scene complete with military rolling stock and removed signs from the road....

.....amazing detail, even down to rabbits and pigeons in the fields!

My other favourite has to be this snow covered board...

...there was even a working 'Nodding Donkey' and camp fire!!

Other ones of note...

......a big replica of Paisley (a town just outside Glasgow) complete with Abbey and Paisley Town Hall.

Amazing detail in this hotel scale model....

A fully working crane....

....and an huge and amazing layout involving this 3ft high bridge :o and hundreds of great wee detail, which you had to really look for.....

Do you see it yet?

What about now?

Now?

I never got a chance to ask why there was a clown under the bridge! There's also this...

....two young lovers getting frisky! That was an ackward moment with my brothers wee boy!!!! lol

The Doctor even made an appearance on one of the other boards....

Hope you all enjoy the pics? I would love to any more if anybody else managed to make it.......

Add some of my picture of the WWII layout. Stunning detail on everything.
Pile of removed sign posts laying at the end of the platform

You can see the little dots in the field at the bottom left.
Pigeons :o :o :o

A sherman squadron

An infantry unit camped in the woods

I buy railway modelling mags just for the photos of the scenery. Some of the work is staggering.

Many thanks for posting the pictures above. I could have spent all day there.

Yup me too. Lovely pics. Saw the WWII set up featured in a mag a month or so ago. Great use of those AB figs. Didnt see the stubble field with the pidgeons before. Looks like it was made of a woven carpet, maybe even underlay. Have too look into that cos its really effective.

Fuck me, there's some incredible terrain talent there. I however feel, as a wargamer, that it is a bit wasted because model railways are so... static.

Those railway modellers sure know how to build a nice board............

Brilliant  :o :-*

The buildings all look so real. Why do wargames buildings look like caricatures of buildings, whereas these look like real houses in miniature?  :?

Stunning stuff, thanks for the pics chaps. That WWII layout is my favourite. I'm going to build those shops in 28mm for my Victorian set.

I loved that detail in this one, especially the car stuck in the flock of sheep...

A lovely wee desert board...

This was a cool big 'F' shaped board...

Doing up hyper detailed scenery that does not have to survive figure bases tromping all over it must allow for more delicate items to be used. Then sometimes when I am striving for that detail, stray thoughts come along like, "will this item block LOS...? "  heh

Our buildings have to survive being moved, plus our terrain most be able to move around and be in different places (and represent different places). Also, details matter. Theirs can survive better due to the above condition about wargames terrain.
