I've been kicking around a ruleset for the past few years - Goblin Rules Rugby. The core concept is a faster-paced game that most of the fantasy sportball games out there, with more fluid movement and more chances for both sides to be involved in the play nearly all the time. I have chosen Aussie Rules and Rugby Union/League rules as the base inspiration. I am shamelessly pillaging concepts from other games, including the activation mechanic from Songs of Blades and Heroes and the die shifting mechanic found in many of the GZG games (amongst others). I originally wrote it in 2023, left it alone for a few years as few of my usual game group play any of the sportsball games (and I despise Bloodbowl), but I picked it up again last week and have been working on it. Had a pair of playtests over the past week, with my team tying one game and losing the other 11-0.
Figured I'd post a few pictures here and see if anybody was interested in playtesting to see if the core concepts work.
Top picture - my bad teddy bears vs Skaven. We each scored once (by running the ball in), with my score coming in the game's equivalent of the 91st minute (the end clock is variable ala soccer/football). 2nd is the other playtest game that day, in which the orcs and humans couldn't figure out how to pick up the ball on the pitch for a hilariously long time.
