Impressive new film!!
« on: December 17, 2009, 10:56:43 PM »
Apparently it cost $300 to make.  Even if it were 10 times that amount it's very impressive - knocks the pants off that Transformers rubbish!!

That's quite cool. It does show why giant bipedal robots are silly though (and this from someone who likes walkers :) )

I really liked the 4 robots joining together in the middle of the city, I thought that was a great idea and an interesting way of creating an armoured beachhead in enemy territory. Then it exploded which was just dumb! If that was the intention then why didn't they just do it in the first place or just, you know, drop a bomb!

Still, at least I could see what was happening unlike the Transformers films.
So many projects..... so little time.......

Nice find, and I agree, the acting is a lot more convincing as well.

Say what jet fighters are those?

I think the robots landed, had a look around, defeated the puny aircraft sent against them, and then decided that Montevideo would look much better as a car park................BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!

For an indie film I give it full props, but yeah if your whole point was to distory the city the intert attack was poorly planed, why not just dope a nuke on it, they would also leave a bigger foot print with an airburst.
Sorry, I am just burned out on CGI blow stuff up fests. Other then that it was a great job.

Say what jet fighters are those?

The first ones you see are Cessna A-37B Dragonfly's, which are jets, while the second flight consists of FMA IA 58 Pucará's, powered by twin turboprops.  Both are very cool looking birds!

Cool film with no point.

Without seeing it on the big screen, it looks very convincing. A nice set of visual effects well though out and executed. Makes you wonder why modern films have to cost so much (apart from the rediculus fees that the 'superstar' actors charge, millions per bloody film my arse!).

Although I do agree about the end, maybe they ran out of budget  lol

cheers

My impression is like others. It was an interesting technical exercise but pointless.

I thought the opening sequence was the most effective. I was looking forward to the child having a larger significance. (Fantasy creation, imagination gone wild in play, that sort of thing without them becoming big dumb 'bots).

Then it rapidly became banal.

Just like Transformers and sadly, like Avatar promises to be.

Why can't aliens be alien rather than looking like renaissance Milanese armoured knights or blue coloured noble savages? It's boring and insulting.

There's also a hefty fascist sub-text through most of it which is even more depressing. So stupidly violent, so simple minded.

At least the original Alien was just a straightforward haunted house horror film with little pretension at being more.

Human beings should ask themselves these questions every now and then: what if we are alone in the galaxy for all practical purposes? How do we deal with the knowledge of loneliness?

It didn't completely work but I believe that A for Andromeda by Fred Hoyle was one of the better ideas that could do with a revisit. But I guess without a set of marketed action figures no-one would watch it.

I saw it as protection for them from the superweapon... they join up, combined power charge or whatever and boom out from them not that it itself exploded... of course, even then it makes the shooting bits silly, because they could have just done the superweapon anyway as you said...

It's nice to see giant robots, unlike in the Transformers film. Overall it was nicely done, some interesting shots without overdoing the shaky handicam footage, and the scene on the steps looks like a nod to the Odessa steps scene from Battleship Potemkin. If someone spun it into a full length film I'd probably watch it, depending on how good the plot was.

Nice SFX for such a tight budget but it was still a short and had nothing else but Special Effects. I've seen shorts with more story which were also more interesting. At first I thought it was a trailer but when I knew it wasn't it was a bit of a letdown since the story was going nowhere. Of course a full feature film from the same director could be great if it has a decent script.

Oh, and I'm also getting fed up with the music from 28 Days Later popping up all the time.
Let me hear the battle cry
Calling on the wind
Let me see the banners fly
Before the storm begins
