BIG boat (JUNE 6 UPDATE: BOAT IN THE WATER) New pics
« on: December 24, 2009, 12:33:32 AM »
OK, so this isn't mine, it's my dad's. This ship is entirely made from cardboard and duct tape; it's a project he's making for (Boy)scout camp where he works. It's built to carry a 90-pound boy who will power the ship with pedals through a swimming pool. It's big enough to accept 54mm figures (judging by looking at it)- The hull is 12-feet long! (Note: These pics just show the superstructure; The hull is framed but not plated yet.)

He's obviously a very talented chap!

I hope there will be some 54mm figures on her decks.

Please keep us updated and post pics of her maiden voyage. I'm intrigued by the concept of the live crewman and can't wait to see her afloat ;D

A quick note: Dad tells me this ship is at 1/24 scale and is modeled after the Battleship Missouri BB11 built in 1898. He fills in with more info on my blog about why he built it.

That ship is pretty darn impressive, but I have to say, holy crow! to those ghostbuster minis. As a ghostbuster nut, I do say fantastic work on those.

It floats!! Here are a couple pics from the first float test. The ship rides a little high right now, but that's because it's supposed to have a human pilot inside the hull (who is not present in these pics; the float test I think was also a safety test.) Hopefully, I'll get some details later. And I'm hoping they get some video for its official launch.
