Painted: Dalek Sec - NEW PICs
« on: January 06, 2010, 09:30:54 AM »
Mark Dixon has worked his magic over this commission (mounted on a Fenris base) for the Salute game:

You can see all the minis for the DWMG Salute 2010 game here:

All good as usual, but I can't quite get into those Fenris bases. A personal thing, but I just find them a bit distracting.

Although I could manage to get over it if I owned a nice pile of minis painted by Mark Dixon!

nicely done...

has the top half been rigged to rotate? don't remember the overhang at the back being that bad...

the bases look like the toppers for lipped the warmachine type of display base that Fenris do, just without the d/s base...

He's certainly done a lovely job! Great use of the greys to represent shiny black. Wait, he hasn't painted Sec's name badge! The cheat :o >:(

Oh. it's not visible due to the angle of the pics  ;)

 lol lol

I assume that it is a one-off private commission and therefore won't be going on sale (copyright issues etc) ?  :(

Actulally, the more I see of the Fenris bases, the more I like them. Trouble is, they are very "terrain specific" so I might struggle  to use them.

I really, really must try and get to Salute this year!

That's the disadvantage of being a half-blind 48 year old wargamer  lol

And Heresy's new Doc on the block!

Just packed my 15 MU daleks away for a while as trying to keep a tidy focussed workbench of late.

Nice paints, echo previous comments re: Sec's upper body but looks great and Ian's bases really set them off nicely.

Cheers V - As I remember, the original model is just like that - weird I know. I don't think Mark has diced and spliced on this one, but I can check.

yeah... they are growing on me an awful lot... but a) I've just finished rebasing all of my Who stuff and b) what you said... although every base is terrain specific... it's just a more interesting look and a lower profile...

oh god dammit...

Sorry Chris! I struggled too. It's a personal preference, but I really don't like the raised lip bases.

I've been happy with two pence pieces for years, but I just wanted something a bit chunkier and that gave a bit of character particularly on the Cybermen and Daleks where they all look the same. I'm really happy with the results, but don't know if it continue it for everything.
