Egyptian Chain Mail Cavalry
« on: 10 January 2010, 09:29:41 PM »
Painting up some Perry Chain Mail cavalry from their Sudan line.  I infer that their trousers are white, just like everyone else's ?  Would the bugle cord be the same sort of exotic green as the general consensus suggested for infantry bugles?   I'm assuming that their boots would be black, but how about the leather work on the horse? Black as well?  There is no saddle cloth.  Would the stirrups be steel, or brass?
Many Thanks,
Maj Weenie.

Don't think we're ignoring you, Major. Rather I feel that it is just a case of nobody knowing the answer.  :-[

Ajor,

I haven't been able to find any info on them either. Your suggestions sound reasonable, as the line cavalry were dressed in white too. I would copy their horse furniture for your armoured troops. Off the top of my head, I can't remember the exact details, but if you need them I'll look tonight after work.

You would hope the Perrys have some info on them, so maybe contacting them via their site might bring help?

They are top of my colonial wants list along with the bashi-bazouks  :D

Sorry, I missed your post initially, so thanks to Plynkes for bringing it up.

Thanks for the replies,
I had begun to suspect that I'd been sent to Coventry for excessive Mexican Revolution photos.
I strongly recommend that anyone, anywhere, with any spare amount of money buy Perry Bros. Bashi Bazouks.  They are spectacular, both mounted and on foot.  The Basingers are very good too, and the Egyptian line infantry are perfectly splendid.  I think that the line inf. command stands and 'skirmishing' are just a bit better than the chaps marching at slope arms.
The Chain mail command figures are equally nice, but the chain mail ordinary troopers are a bit bland.  The sculpting is just fine, but they sort of 'sit there' on the horses, with sabres against their right shoulders, and... nothing.  Don't know what they're missing, but I'm not quite as enthusiastic about them as the rest of the Egyptian line.
Regards,
MW.

I don't know of any brass stirrups, at least not in modern times.
I am always keen to learn something new, but I'd be surprised, because brass of that thickness easily breaks

Maybe for excessive pics of My Little Pony, but you are safe with the Mexican Revolution.  ;)

In my opinion, the more pics and info we get on "obscure" subjects the better!
