Painting Brown and Red/Orange Hair
« on: May 01, 2007, 12:08:59 AM »
I was hoping someone here had some good tips or paint schemes/recipes for painting brown hair and red/orange hair. I have black hair and blonde hair downpat but need to master the other two or my ranks will be filled with black and blondes.

Red/Orange is really easy with GW colors - Blood red, Blazing Orange, Fiery Oramnge and some higlights with Golden Yellow

Excellent. Thanks. Your redheads are among my faves.

How about brown? I know Scorched Brown and Bestial Brown are good bases, but how to build up and highlight?

I use the Foundry brown sets ((Spearshaft and Tan) for that, they have perfectly mix for the brown hair

I would mix Scorched or Bestial Brown with some Bleached Bone, for each layer a bit more Bleached Bone

I tried Alex' way for red hair. It looks good, but I'd only use it for sci-fi or fantasy figures, because it also looks very unnatural. Nobody has got THAT orange hair.

"Uh, I better look in the manual... This book must be out of date. I don't see "Prussia", "Siam" or "autogyro"...

True, but as in real life, nothing stands out like a redhead. Even on the tabletop.

Hi Prof
Can you give me the exact Foundry colours for the brown hair?
Right now I'm being lazy with just scorched brown with white highlights.
