From the pages of Bram Stoker's Dracula - Harker
« on: 16 January 2010, 02:46:19 PM »
I just picked this up yesterday. A new graphic novel picking up the Dracula story six months after the events of the original story.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pages-Bram-Stokers-Dracula-Harker/dp/1905692358/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1263653611&sr=1-2-fkmr0

The artwork is great and the story is pretty good so far, worth looking at if you like your Vampires in a gothic setting with none ot this modern romantic nonsense ;)

Looks interesting. Have you seen the "Sequel" to Bram Stoker as written by his great-great-grandchild (I think that's the relation, name is Stoker), that was released late last year? Being sold in the bookstores here. Haven't read it. Some potential, maybe.

Yes, I have that book as well. Both were written at the same time and have very similar plot lines.

Can you give a few spoilers on the story. Because I tought by the end of stokers novel  Dracula was no longer undead .
Or did someboday manage to rise him from the grave once again ?

Six months after the events of the original novel Mina Harker starts having dreams about the Count. The ghost of Qunicey Morris vistis Johnathan Harker to tell him one of Dracula's Vampire Birdes is coming for revenge to steal Mina Harkers yet to be born son to assist in the undead rebirth of Dracula.

For an excellent 'sequel' (really a reimagining where Dracula is successful in  his schemes) read 'Anno Dracula' by Kim Newman.

Great stuff, though I believe it's currently out of print. I'd love to see a movie of it.

I have it and read it.  Pretty good.  Interesting that one of the reasons for writing it was to restore the "stolen" copyright to the Stoker family.

I think we may be discussing a different book.  ???  The one I'm talking about is a recent publication.

LINK

Well worth a read, but I still prefer the original novel/story.

Silly me!  ::) I know the one you.

For some reason I was thinking of Anno Dracula by Kim Newman.

Great book. When I read League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, years later, I immediately had flashbacks to Anno Dracula. (This was before I had encountered the Wold Newton universe.)

Fun side note: Mr. Newman, a friend to one Neil Gaiman, also wrote some books for Games Workshop under the penname Jack Yeovil. (Wikipedia.)

Starring a vampire named Genevieve Dieudonné... interesting, no?  ;)
